Bitdefender Not Running After Coming Out Of Sleep Mode?

I recently installed the free version of Bitfender for my laptop, windows 8.1. When coming out of sleep mode, the icon wasn't listed in my task bar. Does this mean it wasn't running? How do I get it to run continuously? I uninstalled Norton 360, because i was tired of seeing the double icon, and slow down on my system.
Also, I have a 64-bit operating system, and use Internet Explorer; but I also use Chrome which is a 32-bit browser. Do I need to install 2 versions of Bitdefender? Is there a 32 bit and a 64 bit version?
