Firewall Issue

I'll start by saying when answering this questions don't get all technical on me cause I won't understand it... I need the fix the issue for dummies version.

I am a teacher and one of the things was are required to do while off is check out district e-mail on a regular basis... I've always been able to do this in the past (I've had bitdefender since Feb I think) through our web exchange... until this week. I noticed that I wasn't able to get in or when I did get in I could check on message then when I tried to change messages it would lock up... I actually took my computer to our IT people and they found that it was the firewall that was blocking it... they did something (don't ask cause I don't understand it) but they reset something and I was able to get in and move around while I was there... then later that day when I get home the same old problem comes up it allowed to to log in once then I couldn't move around and not I can't even log in... I did go and put bit defender on game mode thinking that might help but nothing...

So far I'm a little disappointed in this program that I payed for... I'm considering getting it off my computer and going to a different program if this can not be resolved to my satisfaction. I MUST be able to check my e-mail... and what I don't understand is why it allowed me to do this without issues for month and all of a sudden it's decided that my e-mail exchange must be blocked....

Thank you

  • Hello,

I'm not really qualified to speak on behalf of bit defender, but curious as to which e-mail client you are attemepting to utilize? you may be trying to access resources that require a port to be unblocked in your firewall? you mentioned exchange, are you possibly using exchanges webmail client? (outlook web access) if OWA utilizes SSL encryption you may have to enable port 443 to allow the secure session to take place?

Not that I understand all that you said but I can answer that yes it is outlook web access that we use as our exchange (maybe calling it that isn't the correct term but that's what I've always referred to it as).. I'm unsure as to what you are telling me to enable as I've never done anything before nor have a changed anything in the past at it always worked up until this week.... but if you can help I'll be very grateful!

  • Hello,

    Please read this: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=4421

Also, while reading (and applying) the above steps, please assure that the mail client is Allowed to access the network (the Action in the firewall should be Allowed, not Blocked).
