Update Not Recognizing Licence Serial #

Hi,

this morning I received the dreaded notice that my Bitdefender 10 license will expire in 5 days time. From past experience I know that in five days my computer will have no protection at all. Unlike other antivirus products that simply stop the updates from the license expiry period and give you a few extra days to save funds for update, Bitdefender dumps you in the sh... and leaves you totally exposed. Not fun when you are a pensioner and don't have readily disposable income. Why can't they give a 30 day warning and then the 5 day one? Even 14 days warning would be fairer.

Had a look at the licence renewal page (3 licenses) and realised that there is a newer version of BD available (BD Internet Security 2008). Checked the conditions for licensing which clearly stated that I would be eligible for free programme updates occuring within my licence period. So, still being within my licencing period, I downloaded the removal tool, uninstalled BD 10 and then downloaded and installed BD 2008 so that it would all be easy to renew in 5 days through the licence renewal page.

Trouble! BD 2008 tells me my licence is for a previous version of BD and will not accept the licence key. So at present I'm currently running on a demo version of BD 2008. With a new version currently in Beta testing (as was v.2008 when I renewed from v. 9), and due for release possibly within 6-8 weeks, I'm wondering how the heck their system for updates works? Can I ever run a current version or am I doomed to be perpetually behind with this programme due to when my licence renewal falls due?

I had hoped that 2008 might solve some of the problems with BD10 which slows my system to a crawl when opening any files or programmes despite it having already checked them ad infinitum. This has had me really hacked off for some time and I've been looking at alternative good security programmes. The latest problem could just be the final nail in the coffin that pushes me into changing to other software.

Can anyone suggest just how I can do a simple update followed by a simple renew and have my 3 licence rego code work? Why do they even have the "renew licence" button on their site?

  • Hello,

Normally, the licenses are fully compatible (from v10 to 2008). And, believe me, I also did the same thing, and it worked for me, and also for hundreds of users who have upgraded from v10 to 2008 in the past year.

Why BD rejects your license? Maybe you installed the wrong version of BD2008. What version of BDv10 did you use, and what version of 2008 did you try to register?

Also, you said you are now using a trial-version of BD2008. This means you have 30 days of trial, so it's enough time to get this problem sorted out. :)

    Cris.
