Real Time Protection Shouldn't Be Off

I found "Real time protection" turnd OFF but I can not possibly turn it back ON. What is what's going on? Did I read something that an update may have corrupted something?

  • Hello Coolshrek,

Please try the following: press the windows button together with r now type services.msc press enter.

See if the following services are present:

    BitDefender Communicator

    BitDefender Desktop Update Service

    BitDefender Threat Scanner

    BitDefender Virus Shield

Now double click on each service:

    1) startup type should be set on automatic. Service should be started (running)

    2)automatic. started (running)

    3)manual

    4)automatic. started (running)

Press again the windows button together with r now type devmgmt.msc. Go to the view (display) menu select show hidden devices. Now you will see a new section appear called non plug and play compatible drivers.

Look if the following entries are present:

    bdftdif

    BDSelfPr

    Profos

    Trufos

Now double click on each entry see if the device is enabled. After that press on the driver tab:

1)running (started) and startup type should be set on system

    2)running (starte), on request

    3)on request

    4)on request

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • Hello Niels,

    thanks for your help.

The items in services.msc were all present and in the following state:

    BitDefender Communicator - automatic/ started

BitDefender Desktop Update Service - automatic/ started

BitDefender Threat Scanner - manual but started

BitDefender Virus Shield - automatic but not started

The items in devmgmt.msc were all there and in required state.

    Bdftdif – running/ system

    BDSelfPr - running/ demand

    Profos - demand

    Trufos – demand

I set Threat Scanner and Virus Shield how they should be, but after reboot they went back…. Unfortunately we’re still at square one. Any ideas?

  • Hi Niels,

I decided to take drastic measures. I have noticed from history that it stopped some two weeks ago after moving some Trojan. So I decided to completely uninstall BD with it’s uninstall tool from here: http://kb.bitdefender.com/KB333-en--How-to...itDefender.html and downloaded the latest version from here: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Downloads/. Now all is well and it only took 15 minutes all up.

But thanks again for your effort.

    Regards,

    Coolshrek

  • Hello Coolshrek,

You could have performed a repair installation also before a complete uninstall and reinstall. To do that click on start, programs,BitDefender 2008,repair or remove choose repair.

    Kind regards,

    Niels
