Program Network Failure

I have a program on 2 computers that gets it's information from my server. BD internet security 2016 is installed on my server. the two computers will not communicate with my server with the firewall on even though I have allowed the program access and gave permission via the adapter tab and put the computers ip address's in the exemption box as stated in their KB article to fix this problem. I really need to exempt the entire folder of the program because there are hidden files in the folder that I cannot exempt. I last tried BD 5 years ago and had the same problem but the BD allowed you to give permission to the entire folder. BD please help or I will have to ask for a refund and go back to Norton. Thank you!
