Bitdefender Firewall/windows Firewall

I've just installed Bitdefender Internet Security on to my Windows 10 laptop, and i have a question about the firewall. I have read it's best practice to disbale windows firewall and that Bitdefender should do that, doing installation. I did not so i did it myself. The funny thing is, when i look in the "Windows firewall with advanced security" it says windows firewall is enabled. Also i can see in bitdefender firewall rules, there isnt half the number of rules that i have in windows firewall. Does the windows firewall rules work in conjunction with Bitdefender firewall??? I can connect to my ftp server outside without having it allowed in bitdefender, but only in windows firewall???
