Just wanted to confirm that this stand-alone program is already included in the latest update of BD IS 2016. No need to download it separately, right?
Sorry - that link doesn't work. I meant this program: https://labs.bitdefender.com/2016/03/combination-crypto-ransomware-vaccine-released/
Yes any 2016 BD AV suite has Ransomware protection now built in.
Thanks. I know that it has some sort of Ransomware protection. I just wanted to make sure there was nothing in the new stand-alone program that goes beyond what's offered in the suite.
Others can weigh in but from what I understand there's not.
It looks to me like this standalone freeware offering just duplicates what is found in the suite, which is blocking unauthorized writing within specified directories, and blocking executables from running under %appdata%.
In addition to using a good tool to block this scumware, I would strongly suggest doing regular backups. If my ransomware defenses failed me, I would be able to restore my Windows drive from an image, and any newer data files from CrashPlan.com. There is zero chance I'm paying ransom to some scumbag.
