2008 Tis - Status / Quick Links Blank, Tools Missing

TIS2008, Status and Quick Links are blank. Sorry, no screenshots right now. If I open the Security Center, I have the Status: title, with nothing below it (no buttons for Parental Control, etc), and the Quick Tasks section only has the box...no title, tabs or buttons in the box (update now, etc). If I click on the Settings link, I have buttons on the left frame for Antivirus, Firewall, Antispam, Privacy Control, Paternal Control, and Update...no Tune Up or Backup buttons. All of the available choices seem to work correctly. I have done the repair thing once already...no change. I am running WinXP, SP2, and have already removed the extra psapi.dll files, and upgraded to MS .NET3.0, though .NET2.0 was not removed. No change. As an added bonus, if I try to search (Windows button + f, or right click | Search), the cute little puppy walks up and sits down in a blank Search Companion frame. Search, of course, worked before I installed TIS2008. Please try to help before I remove TIS2008 and use the disk for target practice. and go back to Kaspersky! BTW, I installed TIS2008 on my backup laptop (also WinXP - I have a three license package), everything seemed to install and work correctly, so I don't believe the problem is with the disk. I suspect something is missing or mis-configured w/in WinXP, but haven't a clue where to start looking, and the TIS installation process apparently does not check for / warn about missing dependencies.
