Problems With Bitdefender Internet Security 2008
I have a couple of problems i need to get sorted out.
1. I installed BitDefender onto a clean install of Windows XP x64, at random intervals my desktop & program icons & buttons suddenly get a black background on them. This will stay around for a few hours and then dissappear, even the start button has a black box on it. I didnt realise this was related to the software until i get my mother to buy Bitdefender Antivirus 2008 for her machine. She installed it and now her icons randomly switch to a white background. She is using Xp x32 SP3. Is this something other people have experienced?
2. I had to scan my machine once a week instead of daily or else every morning i get up the system is reporting a virtual memory warning. (My scans run at 2am daily, or they did until i found this was the problem). I also see vsserv.exe chewing up mssive amounts of memory after a few days of uptime. Could this be due to me having 4 hard drives and 12 in a server with mapped drives to this pc? I have instructed bd to not scan my lan drives.
Overall i find the software pretty good and a lot better at catching viruses than my old software on my other pc. But i do need these problems ironing out.
I nearly forgot, the firewall forgets its rules about once a week, i am sick of clicking allow on my programs all the time, is this also a bug?

Hello balz,
1) Are you using an nvidia graphics card? If so that could be the problem see here. This more seems to be a glitch with nvidia drivers and 64 bit versions of windows.
Keep in mind that windows from time to time refreshes the icons on your desktop. Can you also please make a screenshot of that behaviour? Try also to reduce the amount of desktop icons to see if it still happens.
2)That is a known issue that vsserv.exe consumes lots of virtual memory if you don't shutdown your computer. The only thing you what you can do is stopping the virus shield service and restart it. Press the windows button together with r now type services.msc. Left click on the BitDefender Virus Shield service and at the left side press on restart. Or you can also reduce the usage by changing the settings of the on-access scanner to let only scan executable files or you can enable the option to exclude large files or folders and even network shares. To do that right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray press on open advanced settings. Normally the shield tab of the antivirus section should be high lighted if not do that press on custom level. Press on the +-sign before scan accessed files. Don't forget to press on ok to save the changes.
Kind regards,
Niels0
