install bitdefender root certificate--what is this

I got a pop-up yesterday and today.

Title: Install Bitdefender Root Certificate

Text: You must close thunderbird in order to install the Bitdefender Root Certificate.

Yesterday, the program reported: update failed, error -11.

Today the update error seems gone; the program reports: Update successfully finished.

Are these expected? They are a change in visible behavior, for sure, from my perspective.

  • Short story: SSL protection for your browser. It breaks connection to the bad sites with bad certificates...

But the problem - in free version you can't disable it, so if you work with your own self signed ssl webs like i do every day, it breaks connection. So, the only option is to disable the whole protection. Thanks a lot, bitdefender, you was the best option among the other free antiviruses, now i have to uninstall it. Like is that really that hard to place at least Some options in the free version? I won't buy it just to be able to Disable something, it doesn't make any sense, sorry guys, this policy is wrong...

  • And what is worse after clicking on this yesterday my Windows 10 PC kept getting a BSOD. I don't know how Bitdefender managed that, but it has been rempved from my PC never to return !

  • I'm having the same issue since a few days ago.  Now I can't access my own router/firewall's web interface from any browser since it uses a self-signed cert, the BD cert took over and screws it up.   Once I turn off the BD protection, everything works again.  Disappointed to have to uninstall.
