File Shredder won't shred some files

I have Bitdefender Internet Security 2018.

I have used Bitdfender for many years and have never had a problem with the file shredder until now.

I have an external hard drive. I shredded a few directories on it with no problems. Then when I tried to shred one directory, it started to do its thing, then  after a couple of seconds it turned yellow and said "unable to delete file". Nothing else. I used File Explorer to look and saw no files. I turned on the hidden files option and still couldn't see anything. I then went into the Windows command prompt and saw a bunch of files.  I know I could probably delete the files from the Windows Prompt but I want them shredded. So my questions are:

1) Why will Bitdefender not delete those files? I am the administrator so that shouldn't be an issue.

2) How can I shred those files since obviously Bitdefender is having issues? I want them shredded.

You will most likely need to take ownership of the folder in question and grant your user full permisions. This can be done through the command prompt as detailed in this article:

 Afterwards try again to shred the files.
