Question About Scanning Emails (thunderbird)

I just downloaded and installed Bitdefender Anti virus (trial version)

The option for scanning my email is selected. How can I check or see if BitDefender is scanning my incoming emails/attachments?. No animation when scanning, can't find reports etc.

I am using Thunderbird as email client at the moment.

T.i.a.!

  • Hello panichunter,

BitDefender antivirus or antispam only scans pop3 accounts and only default e-mail port which is port 25. Also secured connections aren't scanned. But BitDefender realtime protection will react when you try to open an infected attachment.

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • OK, Thanx

  • Hello panichunter,

I forget to mention that BitDefender scans port 110 also which is pop3 in my previous post. Glad that I could help. You are welcome.

Well, once again I feel let down by Bitdefender.

When I complained about Bitdefender 2008 not scanning standard ports I was advised in an official response from the company that the 2009 version would address the issue of non standard ports.

My pop3 incoming port is 965 and the outgoing is 465, these are secured ports as set by Sky Broadband.

I was told that real time protection would protect me but I would prefer a scanning package to check my email as it is being downloaded.

Guess I'll be looking for another program when my licence expires.

Below is an extract from an email I received from Tech Support when I queried this issue:

    Dated 28/02/2008

We are currently working on developing BitDefender 2009, which will be able toscan other ports. It will be released in the summer. Real-time protection scans any file that is being copied on your computer. Soif you want to download an attachment from an email, it will be scanned.

So why I have been lied too then!

  • Hello Robert W,

This is only a user forum. Keep in mind that there are also product upgrades downloaded and installed. The best thing is that you contact liveassistance and ask it again choose technical support. Normally when e-mails are scanned you should see that pop-up.

    Kind regards,

    Niels
