Doing a scan of large drives with several hundred thousand folders and files

I have a very large 6 TB drive with millions of folders and files on it. This drive is connected to a laptop (on which BD is installed on) using USB 3.
Right now I'm trying to scan a 1.46 TB folder with the AV Free Edition.
In the last 12 hours 7 minutes, 44 seconds I have scanned 9,530,372 files and it's probably about 12% done. Should it take this long?
Is there a way to speed this up? Maybe use the command line or purchase a version. I have no issues updating to a paid version or, if it's not too expensive, a business version. I use this (among other) scanners in my cybersecurity work to look for issues after working on a client computer.
