Windows 10 Pro Laptop with Bitdefender Total Security 26.0.10.45 Not Starting when Laptop Boots

Good morning Bitdefender Community,

I have a Lenovo T470 laptop with Windows 10 Pro installed ( OS Build 19044.1503, Version 21H2). With Bitdefender Total Security, Build 26.0.10.45 installed.

For about a month now my Bitdefender Total Security does not Start Automatically when my computer First Boots Up. I have to go to the Bitdefender Security Icon, and Click on Bitdefender and then it will Start. I have scanned multiple times and do not detect any viruses.

I checked my Services in Task Manager, and any "Bitdefender Services" are set to AUTO, therefore, I'm not sure why the program isn't "Boot".

I have an extensive I.T. background, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Tim Mihalik

  • Hello @tjm358 and welcome to the Community! We're happy to have you here.

    To advise you properly, I would need a couple of details, as follows:

    • are you referring to the Bitdefender systray icon in the taskbar;
    • are you referring to the desktop Widget;
    • are you referring to the Early Boot Scan option, that scans your device at startup, as soon as all critical services are loaded.

    Best regards.

  • Good morning, and thank you for the rapid response.

    In the past it always started since Bitdefender was a "Service", that simply started when the Win 10 laptop started.

    The Bitdefender Systray icon will appear if I manually start Bitdefender. My subscription is current , expiring on December 27, 2022.

    The Early Boot Scan option, no I am not referring to that.

    Again, I have not made any changes to the "Settings" section of the Bitdefender Product. For some reason the Anti Virus software simply is not loading on Startup.

    Any other input would be sincerely appreciated.

    Thank you again,

  • Hi,

    Starting with the build versions 19.x, 20.x and 21.x bdagent.exe (which holds the Bitdefender desktop widget, Wallet master password, the ‘B’ system tray icon) no longer loads automatically from the Run registry key, but it is set to run as a scheduled task.

    In Task Scheduler, Bitdefender Agent is now scheduled to start with a delay after boot. Therefore, the system tray icon appears a little bit later.

    NOTE: This does not jeopardize the security of the Windows systems.

    It only delays the load of some Bitdefender graphics for a better response of Windows 10. The anti-malware engines are loaded automatically at boot from vsserv.exe. This is the main process of Bitdefender in charge of real-time protection.

    Even though the interface is not loaded yet, Bitdefender still provides real-time protection against malware even before your Windows account loads completely.

    Cheers.
