A Blank Link Has Shown In My Control Panel

I have been hit with a virus that is rewriting my computer programs. I have lost my secure password to download, lost "sleep" on my E machine with Vista Home Premium 32, and a few other things. It also downloads each time I shut down. I cannot stop these things...so I manually turn off my computer and my modem each time I am finished for the day.
What I have found is a blank icon in my control panel. It looks like an empty page with a turned corner. It has no label and will not show me what it is. I have right clicked, left clicked and hovered over it, but no luck. It will not delete, move or open, although I can select it. So, I have no idea what it is!
I am guessing, maybe, it is a text virus (******) which is part of what is rewriting my computer.
Bit Defender does not recognize any virus or faulty folders, so I cannot figure out how to rid or clean it from my computer.
Any ideas?
