VPN Error Code 2 (Simple Fix)
I had this error code pop up and my VPN refused to connect. I unistalled the program and reinstalled it and it still did not work. I rebooted the computer, and even located and removed old registry information. I went through countless articles trying identify the problem and it seemed that nothing worked. My internet worked fine with no connectivity issues. After spending several hours losing my mind I found the fix for this. I simply re-booted my internet modem. After the modem finished its re-set the VPN connected without any problem. I thought I would pass this along for those of you seeing this error code. Im not a tech savvy guy and perhaps this will help others like me. Good Luck!

Hello @Jeff P and welcome to the Community!
Thanks for sharing your findings with us. I'll add a few insights for others that may encounter this error message in the future. There are a few common causes of Bitdefender VPN errors, but sometimes the solution may be simpler than we think. Re-booting the internet modem or reinstalling the VPN might indeed help. VPN connectivity issues can be usually encountered due to the following causes:
- No Internet – Make sure your device is connected to the Internet with a strong and stable connection.
- Firewall – Check that your firewall isn’t blocking the VPN. If you’re not sure, look in your router’s manual, contact the manufacturer or your Internet provider.
- Another VPN or Proxy – If you’re running another VPN or Proxy, disable it when trying to connect.
- Public Wi-Fi (like in a hotel, school, or office) – Contact the network administrator to see if they can change the firewall settings and allow the VPN connection.
- Port 443 is blocked – Port 443 UDP must be open for Bitdefender VPN to work.
Detailed troubleshooting steps for the above causes can be found in this article:
And if the root cause is not among those listed, the best way for troubleshooting connectivity issues is to get in touch with the Support engineers for a more detailed investigation. For further reference, you can contact the Bitdefender engineers using the link below:

Hello,
In addition to Flexx's insightful information above, try to change the VPN protocol as well.
Bitdefender VPN lets you switch protocols, allowing you to choose from OpenVPN (UDP and TCP), IPsec, and Hydra. By default, Bitdefender VPN is configured to automatically select the optimal protocol for your device and network – usually a balance of speed and security. If the VPN doesn't connect at all, it might be a good place to start.
ⓘ Note: Only iOS and Android users can manually select the connection protocol. However, Windows and macOS users are likely to receive this feature in the near future.
