FIREWALL & BELKIN ROUTER

good afternoon,

bit defender 10 plus.

your firewall will not allow me to get into my router to change sttings. iI phoned belkin and all they would say was its a firewall issue (and they were right) i turned off the firewall and anti virus, i also shutdown the whole programme, still no joy, your firewall was not letting me change anything. so as a act of desperation i rebooted with with the firewall & anti virus turned off, and hey presto. i could access my router settings. I have posted this as to alert other uses as to the remedy (turn off firewall, anti virus and reboot) Apart from this little hiccup i am a happy user, from Bit defender 8,9 and 10.

  • Hi K1M,

You could try to add a new rule in BitDefender Firewall to allow all traffic to your router's IP.

    Try these settings:

Open BitDefender Management Console, go to Firewall -> Traffic.

Click Add rule (the button with a cross on it).

    There, set the following options:

    Application: Any

    Action: Allow

    Network Events: All

    Direction: Both

    Protocol: Any

    Source Address: Any

    Destination Address:

    -Type: Destination

    -IP Address: <router's IP>

    Create persistent rule: Yes

    Click OK.

The rule you just created won't appear in the Traffic list, because it's defined for all applications.

    Post if it worked.

    Cris.

  • Hello KIM

I can access my router without any problems. Which browser are you using? What happens when you enter the default gateway address into your browser? You receive that kind of information by doing this go to start, run,at the run dialog box type cmd press enter after that type ipconfig press enter. The default gateway address must be the same as the one mentionned in the manual of your router. Most of the time there isn't a default password to get into the configuration area of your router so you can just press the enter button. What other security programs are installed on your pc?

    Regards

  • Hi Niels,

The ip addy for my router is the default for belkin (192.168.2.1)

i use both firefox and internet explorer. (neither will let me change settings with B Def on)

all i have i security wise is bit defender 10 plus (upgraded yesterday after BD 9 told me i had 5 days left)

    windows firewall is off.

my router <> computer is DMZ ed ie no firewall to my main computer

    and i have internet sweeper.

also as an after thought when you shut down elements of B Def 10+ you have to reboot for the desired effect. so as im typing this i have no firewall/anti virus etc. as i am having trouble getting other proggies working, the main one is Hamachi (but that could well be my router stopping it (am looking into it)

  • Hello K1M

What security level have you choosen in Internet explorer? Set it on default. So as I understand you can get into the configuration of your router but you can't change anything.

    Try this also:

    1. In Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.

    2. Right-click the connection on which you would like to disable ICF, and then click Properties.

    3. On the Advanced tab, click the box to clear the option to Protect my computer or network.

Because as I read that could also cause problems of accessing the router.

Try also to temporary disable or uninstall Hamachi to see if works now.

  • all of the above done, to no effect. still the same,

  • Hello K1M

You can try this also open BitDefender go to general and put the slider on internet. Go to firewall and set it on ask and retry to get into your router and if your receive a pop up of BitDefender allow and it and check also the option remember this setting. When you take a look in BitDefender on the firewall section is there the correct gateway and ip address listed?

  • Hi Niels,

alas to late. Bit defender has been deleted, i am now running on AVG free edition with no problems. i can get into the router to change settings, and Hamachi is now working again. I will leave bit defender on my wifes computer (as i have just paid for it) as she is used to it, (till a box opens saying do you want to allow this, when for the last 2 years nothing has happened)

i think the problem stems from 2 years of settings just wiped out by upgrading to a different version. i was happy with version 9.

thanks for yours and chis's help.

i do recommend bit defender to any one reading this, 5 years of hassel free surfing. if i could of kept version 9 i would have.

  • Hello K1M

The reason why you can access your router is because there isn't a firewall included in avg free. For Hamachi if you made a rule for it in BitDefender than normally it will work. I upgraded from version 8.0 till 10 and I always could access my router. In that time I changed my router. You can also make Softwin aware of this issue by contacting them: http://www.bitdefender.com/site/Live-Assistance.html

Glad that we could assist you.

  • Hello everyone, I realize this is an old thread but I am experiencing the exact same problem as K1M on BD Internet Security 2008.

I have just installed this software after reading excellent product reviews about it, so far I'm experiencing quite a few difficulties the current one explained above with not being able to change any Belkin Router settings. It will let me access the page on 192.168.2.1 but in IE I receive page cannot be found and Firefox just doesn't do anything.

I disabled the firewall on BD and rebooted and sure enough I was then able to change the settings on my router web interface. I've read this post and tried to figure out how to add a rule to allow access to this page but I cannot for the life of me figure it out, can someone point me in the right direction?

FYI On installing this product it hung on the last bit of the installation after clicking finish, I had to end task after 20 minutes of it sitting there doing nothing. After a few reboots it seems to be operating smoothly but it didn't start off well. Other than that I much prefer the interface on BD as I've moved over from ZoneAlarm which was causing endless network problems for me.

  • Hello jasper1106,

There might be still some leftovers of zonealarm active that also can conflict. Please follow these instructions. It might be better to also completely uninstall BitDefender because your previous installation might got corrupted. Please download this BitDefender removal tool. But first right click on the red BitDefender icon near the system tray and choose exit. Now double click on the tool. You will be asked to reboot your pc do so. Now install BitDefender again.

    Best regards

Hi Niels, I followed your suggestions and even had a PC technician around to try to sort this for me.

Even he did not have any success with BitDefender so unfortunately I have had to change as I modify virtual servers every other day on my router so accessing this panel is a necessity for me.

I've changed over to Kaspersky and everything is working smoothly again.

    Thanks for the help though.

  • Hello jasper1106,

Did you had ****** control activated? This sometimes can prevent sites or configuration pages to load properly. Good to hear that you appreciated my efforts.

    Best regards,
