Antivirus Firewall Control Problem
Hi
Just purchased and installed Bitdefender antivirus 2012 on 2 networked computors (removed AVG). Since installing, my accounting software (Quickbooks) can no longer open the company file saved on the other PC unless I turn Windows Firewall off on that PC (XP SP3). I have tried entering all different types of exceptions into the firewall as recommended in the Quickbooks help, but still no go. Once Quickbooks has opened the company file, I can turn the Firewall back on and it all keeps working. I understand Bitdefender Antivirus takes control of Windows firewall, is there anyway to disable this? I see there is a folder in Progam Files>Common Files>Bitdefender Firewall (I'm not sure why this feature has been included in a Antivirus product).
Thanks in advance
Tim.

I have installed BDAV Plus 2012 on my Win7 Pro SP1 x64 laptop, but not yet on my WinXP Pro SP3 x86 desktop. It is still running BDAV Pro 2011. The Windows Firewall is enabled on both. While I don't have Quickbooks installed, I can open Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, text, etc. files on the desktop from the laptop.
So while our setups are not quite the same, I can still access files. Have you tried opening other file types like I mentioned?
Also, what do you mean by, "I understand Bitdefender Antivirus takes control of Windows firewall?" I'm not sure what you mean by that statement.

Regards,
Well there are several .exe files in this location...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Firewall
...one of which is called driverctrl.exe, this looks like something taking control to me.
If you turn the Windows firewall off, the pop up ballon says "Bitdefender Firewall is turned off" instead of Windows firewall is turned off.
Also, I now notice that every time my laptop hibernates, Bitdefender seems to crash with the message "Bitdefender services are not responding"
I think I might have to revert back to AVG which has given me no trouble for years.0 -
Does anybody from BD ever visit this forum?
Well I am so frustrated that I have removed BD from both my computors, it is unstable and keeps crashing and asking for restart.
Wasted my money on this one after reading such good things about BD.0 -
Hello,
First of all please note that Gary is one of the Forum Moderators therefore he is entitled to assist you. Furthermore, I don't quite follow on the issue you are reporting.I previously had AVG on these machines, but have completely removed all components if it as far as I can tell.
You mentioned using AVG. How exactly have you uninstall it ?

The file driverctrl.exe from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender Firewall is not to take over the Windows Firewall, as you believe. The BitDefender Firewall is NOT taking over nor controlling Windows Firewall, that file will install one of the BitDefender Firewall drivers during the installation process. The only action that BitDefender is taking for the Windows Firewall is to disable it, if you are using BitDefender Internet Security or BitDefender Total Security, however, this is not your case as you are using BitDefender Antivirus. If you turn the Windows firewall off, the pop up ballon says "Bitdefender Firewall is turned off" instead of Windows firewall is turned off.
Can I please see a screenshot of that notification ? I can't reproduce the issue on my end.
