Bitdefender 2012 & Auto Scan Infection Detected Options

MrGSM
edited October 2011 in Antivirus

Hi,

I search in BitDefender 2012 for desinfecting option like 2010/2011, (Move to quarantine, delete, desinfect...)

Thank you for showing me this.

  • Those choices are now handled automatically by BD 2012 and not available as selectable options. See the User's Guide for more detailed information.

BitDefender 2012 does not know how to treat infected file viruses, checked for Sality.E, all the program files are infected with the virus have been removed!

  • Here is the result of "treatment" system)

    Gmrpj.jpg

  • It's a bad news for this version of BitDefender....

  • What a stupid decision to auto delete. There should always be an option for the user to decide whether something is deleted / ignored / quarantined

Ive worked repairing pcs for the last 25 years..... How can I possibly recommend this product to anyone knowing that if it gets upset it just starts deleting files it doesnt like.

It did this to me on my laptop immediately after install - I wasnt warned / asked. The files werent moved to quarantine first..... just deleted

  • A lot of people decide to remove BitDefender 2012 and not to renew their licences, just for this option, witch very interesting...

  • Read the user guide as Gary mentioned, infected files are NOT deleted, Bitdefender will try to disinfect them first.

If that fails, they are moved to quarantine. It's only after 30 days that they are automatically deleted.

Even so, there is not much that you can do with infected files in quarantine if it's not a false positive.

Restoring them will only propagate the virus further, you need to restore them from a previous clean backup.

  • ... infected files are NOT deleted, Bitdefender will try to disinfect them first.

Im my case they were deleted - I had no control over whether they stayed on my pc or not. I think its immaterial whether a file can be cleaned or not they still should remain on a pc in quarantine until the user (owner of pc) decides to delete them

It has been confirmed by a moderator that there are no options to control this - so how does reading the User Guide help

"Those choices are now handled automatically by BD 2012 and not available as selectable options"

  • There are no user options, true, but that's because Bitdefender chooses the perfect way to handle infections.

    From the user's guide:

When it detects a virus or other malware, Bitdefender will automatically attempt to

remove the malware code from the infected file and reconstruct the original file.

This operation is referred to as disinfection. Files that cannot be disinfected are

moved to quarantine in order to contain the infection.

Now if you found out that Bitdefender deleted the files without moving them to quarantine, that's definitely not what I expect and what the documentation says, so you should open a separate thread so your ticket can be escalated, unless a mod jumps in and give you one.

Maybe I am stating the obvious, but have you checked the antivirus Quarantine settings section?

Files that are quarantined appear deleted in their original location but they're just moved.

  • But there is good news, BitDefender 2012 learned to treat polymorphic viruses Virut, version 2011 will not know how to do it, but infection Sality removed. Strange situation, now the opposite is true)

    Hello

And in my case too. User MUST have complete control of files infected or not.

There are also some other issues with firewall rules (what is this "general rules"), issues after restart, etc etc but I think I've spend too much hour for all this mess.

So I go back to BD 2011 at the moment and if BD 2012 will remain the same I must say good bye...

I have found that an infected file on my PC does get deleted. I have made DanyDan aware of the issue.

I run BDAV with Auto Pilot turned OFF. I have a file on my PC known to contain adware (banner ads). I have run with it for years and I was able to exclude it in BDAV 2011. I have it on the Exclude list in BDAV 2012:

    post-35640-1313882159_thumb.jpg

On-demand and On-access follows the Exclusion list, but Auto Scan does not. As Auto Scan crawls through the folders, it finds the file and straight away deletes it with no prompt for user input or notification message:

    Regards,

this is negative point to bitdefender 2012

why the auto scan deleted the file while the file was excluded by you

and with on demand scan not deleted.

this is a problem with bitdefender

  • I agree with others that not having decision options on infected files had me uninstall IS 2012 and put 2011 back on. A pain since I had some exclusions and all infection decisions had to reset back to "do nothing" as I like to make decision. This saved a lot of us when BD had the fiasco that removed files accidentally. One the reasons I use BD was because Norton which I like a lot wouldn't do this well. I will not recommend 2012 version to anyone and at the end of my subscription will review other products like Kaspersky and AVG.

  • where are the moderators?????? <img class=" />

  • does total security have the same problem or do you get the option to move files to quarantine there

  • does total security have the same problem or do you get the option to move files to quarantine there

No. All three products operate the same.

    Regards,

  • thanks for repling

@Nikki---On-demand and On-access follows the Exclusion list, but Auto Scan does not. As Auto Scan crawls through the folders, it finds the file and straight away deletes it with no prompt for user input or notification message.

So what about False Positives in the case where Bitdefender takes action (e.g. delete) by its own without user intervention?

  • Have to say that I have the same problem, this new feature thinks a little bit too much, it consideres me a little bit more stupid that i am and, finally, it doesn't give itself (nor myself) the chance to repair the little catastrophes that may generate with a false positive.

  • Hello BitDefender Technical and/or Developer Team,

When can we expect to receive a decent reply from you telling us that you have solved the auto-scan issue?

    Await your soonest answer.

    Hi,

It's the first time I try BitDefender, and I have the same problem.

How to set BitDef to ask before deleting a file... ???

It's the primary basic feature I want to be able to set :

I want to be noticed before a file is deleted, and have these basic and unavoidable choices :

"Quarantine ? Deleting ? or Ignore this file in the future no matter what it is ?"

I've already lost 2 important files in 24h. Is it a joke or what ? <_<

    Please...

  • Hi

Please right click on BitDefender icon from system tray(the "B" icon) and choose "Show". In the main window, click on "Settings". From the advanced interface, click on Antivirus module and select the Shield tab.

In the On access scanning area, please click on Modify. A new window will be opened. Please select Move files to quarantine in the bottom under Actions.

Close the windows and reboot your machine.

Also, please note that you can report to us any False Positives or False Negatives.

If you need any further assistance on this issue, please feel free to let us know.

    Have a nice day.
