Hundreds Of "autoscan Settings Changed" Alerts In 4 Days

It doesn't tell us anything we don't already know, but I just noticed that when I exit full screen in VLC, the Bitdefender icon in the Notification area displays the little "G" letter of the game mode for a fraction of a second before it disappears.
Has the VLC issue been escalated to the devs already? It's been over 2 days since I provided a repro scenario.
I don't expect a fix immediately, just a confirmation that it's on the back burner.0 -
Welcome back Chimel
Some changes were made in .33 build regarding the Game Mode module.
I am waiting for an answer from our Dev. team. As soon as I have the information, I will post it here.
Thank you for your time and feedback.0 -
What a waist of money buying this particular total security seemed to be.
Sorry but.0 -
Hello everyone
Thank you for your patience.
I have some fresh information regarding the Game Mode and those alerts.
Starting with build 15.0.33/15.0.34, Game Mode will be enabled automatically when an application is entering full screen if:
* is in the Smart Cache as a known game(this applies of course for games);
* is detected by Active Virus Control (this means that Active Virus Control must be enabled-for games and applications);
* presentation software(Microsoft PowerPoint and others) in full screen is also detected and Game Mode will be activated;
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presentation_program
In order for Active Virus Control to detect the applications, Automatic game mode must be set to ON.
There is no option for manually adding/removing an application to Game Mode(for now).
This decision was taken using the feedback received regarding this module(Game Mode) and also we can not create a Movie Mode/Presentation Mode when the Game Mode has the same function in the product.
In the current case, you should enable the Game Mode using the system tray icon only when you actually want to use it(recommended) or turn off the Active Virus Control and all the other application should not trigger this mode(not recommended).
The Auto Scan events are normal since the Game Mode is changing ON/OFF when VLC Media Player / a screensaver is started in Full Screen mode.
As you can see from the attached screenshot, Auto Scan is turned OFF when Game Mode is active.
Thank you for your time. Have a great week.0 -
Thanks Cristi for clarify the situation.
As i understand it, disable Game Mode will solve my situation.
Thanks Cristi and have a good day !0 -
That's probably why I have not seen these events. I normally run with Automatic Game Mode switched OFF and only turn it ON (from the Windows System Tray by right-clicking the BD icon) when I actually play a game, which is rarely.

Yes nikki. I am sure of it.
I had game mode enabled.0 -
Gary, it's the Game Mode you turn on, not the Automatic Game Mode, which you have disabled permanently in the General setting.
Cristi, I am totally disappointed in Bitdefender. VLC, Powerpoint and screensavers are not game.
I need to stay protected at all times when I am running apps that are not listed "in the Smart Cache as a known game."
This is clearly a Bitdefender bug, and very likely a regression from v. 2011, as I don't remember such Game mode events before.
Plus, other media players such as WMP and Miro don't generate such events either; VLC should work in the same manner.
I also noticed that these Game mode/Autoscan events do not happen when Auto Pilot is enabled, which means it's working as expected in that case, and it's clearly a bug when Auto Pilot is disabled, since Auto Pilot does not change the protection level and coverage, it's there mostly to take decisions automatically and not launch the user interface.
Game mode should apply to games only, I am not asking for Movie or Presentation modes because there is no need for them.
While I am running these non-games in full screen or not, I am also multitasking, with other tasks running.
I need on-access scanning to keep scanning all files, boot sectors and keyloggers, or whatever level I set for on-access scanning.
I'd also like to know what happens when a video is played full screen on a second monitor while the user multitasks on the first.
Is malware protection restricted too? (With Automatic Game Mode enabled and Auto Pilot disabled)0 -
I'm also very disapointed with this, why on earth does BD need to log the fact you have started playing a game at all?
For the minor few gamers amoungst us this needs to be removed, I do not want to know virus control has been switched off when starting a game etc. then back on when the game is closed.
In addition what about the same logs recorded for safebox at exactly the same time I'm getting virus control logs? I don't even have safebox enabled! " />0 -
As I mentioned earlier, it looks like Auto Pilot gets rid of the bug, but I'll do as Gary did and disable the automatic game mode to be double-sure since it's not working as expected and even Bitdefender people disable it.
It's ludicrous that media players and other full screen apps are considered by Bitdefender as games, but the issue is closed for me.0 -
Can't a whitelist be added the same as previous releases of BD?
At least that way I would be able to stop the events being logged on games etc?
How this works at present makes no sense at all and to me is a step backwards.0 -
Hello everyone
@ mitza97
Thank you for your feedback.
@ Chimel
I'm glad that you managed to use the Auto Pilot to get rid of those events.
@ Nightgaunt
I can not provide you that information now. The Dev are still thinking to change some functions in the Game Mode.
I will post all the new things as soon as I receive them.
Thank you.0 -

Just as a side note, Chimel, I have always run BDAV 2012 with the Auto Pilot OFF so I have more control over the other various option settings as Cristi B. has explained in recent posts.

So did I until 2 days ago. I try to run Bitdefender as per default settings to be as close as possible as what Bitdefender recommends, and I liked the idea of letting the more security-aware and qualified Bitdefender take decisions for me.
I mean, if Bitdefender 2012 gets this Auto Pilot thing working right, this would really be a great advance and I want to support it.
The only reason I would change settings is to fix bugs, that's why I disabled Auto Pilot originally (because of the toolbar bug.)
Or while investigating issues, which is how I discovered Auto Pilot was one way to fix the VLC Game mode/Autoscan event bug.0 -
Hello Chimel
The Auto Pilot is fixing that event because in this mode the product takes care of everything for the user. By everything I mean scans, events, action when a malware is found, update, etc.
When the Auto Pilot is ON, you should not receive any red/orange warnings in the main interface.
Please note that I haven't forgot about that warning with full scan every 8 days. This also should be solved by the Auto Pilot. I am still investigating the phenomenon.
Thank you.0 -
After disable Automatic Game Mode, still same problems...auto-scan on-off events when computer enter screen-saver. I have auto-pilot disabled. I don't understand why ?

@mitza97 Unfortunately Auto Pilot on/off does not remove these Game Mode/Autoscan red alerts for screensavers.
It worked for VLC Media Player, but I had to disable the screensaver for these alerts.
It's a shame customers can't use this most basic energy-saving (i.e. costly) Windows feature.
Such known full screen routine tasks should not generate any alert or even event, it should only disable interactive pop-ups, whether Auto Pilot is on or off, but the computer should stay protected at all times and should enter Game mode only if users play a known incompatible game. When the computer is running the screensaver, it's actually the best time there is to run the Autoscan in the background, it's the last place you'd want to see it disabled!0 -

Yes, you're right. In any case, it is annoying to see so many auto-scan alerts in logs. And do not think it's fair to happen because of a trivial screen saver. Disable the screen saver to solve the problem? I think the problem must be solved in BitDefender product...Maybe this is a bug...0 -
No response on this problem ?

No response on this problem ?
I agree with mitza97, it is a bug. I had five license active. Two work great and three have this bug. I uninstalled three and went with something else. I feel this Bitdefender was somewhat a waste of money. I had read about all there awards and thought I would try them, but now I am not so sure:(0 -
Can someone please give us an update on when this issue will be fixed?
The length of time to resolve some of the issues in these forums is beyond a joke tbh " />0 -
Problem still not solved...it's very annoying! " />

Hi guys
I will talk with the guys from the AVC Team about the current situation.
Please note that by disabling those options when the screensaver is on, the laptop will consume less energy, improving battery life over a longer period.
I will get back to you with the results ASAP.0 -
Thanks Cristi. Have a good day !

Please note that by disabling those options when the screensaver is on, the laptop will consume less energy, improving battery life over a longer period.
Not sure the issue is very relevant for laptops, which should be set to have their display turned off rather than using a CPU-intensive DirectX-based screensaver, but anyway, this is happening on my desktop computer, so I still think that's an even better time for Autoscan than when the user is working. It does not prevent Bitdefender to be smart about it, like not starting a new Autoscan cycle while on screensaver, just completing the current one. I hope the new cycle is not starting immediately after the previous one has completed, there should be maybe a minimum 24h delay, screensaver or no screensaver.0 -
I'm using Bitdefender internet security build 15.0.35.1486, seems Autoscan on/off don't fix?????????????????

Yes, still not fixed.

Hello guys
Please restart your machine in Safe Mode.
[How to restart in SAFE MODE]
- Restart the computer;
- Press the "F8" key several times before Microsoft Windows begins to load; you need to press "F8" until you will be displayed a text menu;
- Select "SAFE MODE"
Open this file in Notepad:
C:\Program Files\Bitdefender\Bitdefender 2012\settings\gamemode.xml
Edit the file in this section:<AutomaticGameMode enabled="1">
<UseDBOKF>1</UseDBOKF>
<FullScreenAction>0</FullScreenAction>
<AskWhenAdding>0</AskWhenAdding>
</AutomaticGameMode>
Reboot your machine in Normal mode and tell me if you still receive those Events.
Thank you.0 -
Hi Christian, that worked for me. FullScreenAction was set to "1" in my gamemode.xml settings file, it is now set to "0".
Maybe it works too well, even: I don't have events anymore for the screensaver or VLC full screen, but I don't have any for full screen games either, whether automatic game mode is disabled or enabled. The latter does not sound fully right, at least a game mode notification would be useful (not one about Autoscan), or does it mean Autoscan is still running even when playing games?
If not, I think this new way is better than the previous situation, since games are a voluntary action, so users already know or soon learn to know that Bitdefender goes into lightweight mode when they are playing games.
I tried these new settings with and without Autoscan, didn't notice a difference. I have now reenabled Autoscan and Auto Pilot (and disabled the toolbar and automatic game mode afterwards) and my BDAV version is 15.0.35.1486.
So the issue seems to be solved for me, but it probably won't be for new users: 1) Maybe make this option the default or make it intuitive to disable these particular events, and 2) Add a GUI way to disable this FullScreenAction setting without having to reboot twice, and that would be perfect!
Thanks also for updating the pinned Update thread about the latest update.0 -
Yes, problem is solved now.

Ok, after 1 day, I don't facing with it.
