I have Kasperski right now and am not too happy with it. I am looking for a new Anti-Virus software. How does BitDefender compare?

    You do not need to compare the two security products! In comparative tests, BitDefender is always located on top positions!

    There are the points which can be taken into account for selecting any security suite


    1) Detection Rates.


    2) Protection Technologies e.g Signature Based, Generic and Pattern-based, Heuristics Detection, Behavioral Scanning, Intrusion Detection etc.


    3) Protection Features e.g Firewall, AntiSpam, AntiBanner, Anti Phishing, Parental Control, AntiRootkit, Privacy Control, Sandbox Feature (Files and Browsing), Rescue Mode/CD, Command Line Scan, ****** Execution for removing some complex malwares etc.


    4) Ability to remove infection traces completely.


    5) False Positives Rate.


    6) Additional Features offered (Optional) e.g Tuneup, Backup/Restore, Vulnerability, Encryption, Game/Silent/Laptop Mode, etc.


    7) Self Protection feature and ability to install, if the system is already infected badly.


    8) Technical Support.


    9) Resource Utilization (Not resource hogging).


    10) Small Installation Footprints i.e occupies less space after installation.


    11) Able to restore/undo any changes/damages made by the virus/malware in the system.


    There can be more things added, but by considering above said, you can eliminate the alternatives, as I select Bitdefender but keep in mind that however no Antivirus solution is perfect giving you 100% protection. Also it is better that the detections should be with the optimum protection settings of the products to be compared.

    Not actually true!


    In the UK the Consumers Association (Which?) in January 2012 rated BD Internet Security 2012 #18 out of 18!*** It had a total score based on protection / firewall / antispam / identity protection / parental controls / reporting / ease of use of 42 against the top rated package (Bullguard) 86. Hardly top position.


    Kasperski, out of interest was #10 with a score of 58.

    And yet, quite possibly true ;)


    What I consider the "gold standard" for AV testing, AV-Comparatives.org, has BitDefender 2nd from the top, just barley behind a competitor in their Whole Product "Real World" Dynamic Protection test. It also showed to be very good in Anti-Phishing, low false positives, and low missed samples (other tests from their web site).


    AV-Test.org also scored BitDefender #1 as far as Protection, Repair and Usability. I also would consider their results to have very good merit.


    Which brings us to the issues that B.D seems to have with this version...if they can get it figured out, this will be the AV to be reckoned with, IMHO. :)
