[resolved] Usb Immunizer

http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35329

Quote from stagedoor in the thread above.

"I have noticed that immunizing a USB removed the identification name given to the USB device

and will not permit a name change after - so all USB become "Removable Disk" instead of the

unique name allocated by me to help identify which of my four identical red 4gb devices

I have in E: F: G: or H: drive.

This is not helpful."

I also have the above problem.

Also, in the above thread, the image posted by Lee S showing the context menu shows,

"The USB device is protected against autorun-based malware." after immunizing the drive.

I don't receive this tag consistently. Many times it shows, "Immunize this drive.", even though

it has already been immunized. This is very inconsistent.

Automatically Immunize Usb Devices In Bitdefender 2013 (pinned topic)

http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35503

This does not work for me. When I switch it to ask every time, it still autoscans the drive and

the notification to immunize does not appear. I have reinstalled Bitdefender using the uninstall

utility first and this has not fixed it. I have tried 3 different flash drives; 256mb, 1gb, and 8gb.

The size made no difference. Mix of NTSF and FAT.

Comments

  • I think the problem lies in that immunizing the usb stops the autorun program and therefore Windows does not "discover" the name applied to the device.

I have noticed in other programmes which use the usb drive that the original name is still there - it is just not viewable until after something has been opened on the drive.

As I said before, Not helpful.

    Thanks for sharing stagedoor.

As for automatically immunizing usb devices, it seems that 'autoscan' and 'ask every time' perform the exact same function.

At least on my computer it does.

Thank you very much. This worked.

Shouldn't it automatically switch to user mode when these settings are set to ask every time?

In the instructions here -> http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35503 it doesn't show that you have to manually switch to user mode.

I appreciate you helping me with this. Thanks.

    Hello :)

The reported issue could be related to this:

    http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35573

Did you have Bitdefender 2013 Beta on that system?

    Thank you!

I will see if I can duplicate this.

I did have BD 2013 Beta installed in the past. I have always used the BD uninstall tool before reinstalling. I always run ccleaner afterwards and then manually check the registry. If you are thinking this is the problem then how do I fix it?

I have escalated the situation from that topic.

You don't receive the pop-up with Immunizer if you sent to prompt the user after the latest product update?

No, I don't receive the popup. I only receive the popup following your instructions @ http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?showtopic=35503 and switching to user mode. Following your instructions leaves autopilot mode on which automatically scans the usb without showing any popup.

Sorry that I am so late with this reply. I lost track of this.

    Hello :)

Right now on my test machines I have Auto Pilot turned ON and those settings applied to prompt the user when an external device is inserted.

Could you please make the settings first and then tun on the Auto Pilot?

    Take care.

I have tried what you asked. When changing to ask every time I have to manually change it to user mode in order to receive the notification. If I switch it to AutoPilot, the usb is automatically scanned when inserted and there is no notification. When changing to ask every time, shouldn't this be user mode instead of autopilot anyway?

    Hello :)

Auto Pilot does not control all the modules from the product, only the critical ones.

The on demand scan of external devices is not one of them because if a malware is located on the external device, it will be detected by the On Access scanner(the shield).

    Thank you!
