Win Explorer Slows Down Because Of Bd?

Since I bought and installed Bitdefender Antivirus 2013, my Windows Explorer seems to have started acting up. Every time I want to start up anything related to Win Explorer it takes a lot of time before it starts. Usually the program freeze for some time. "The program is not answering" is the most common message. After a while (can be several minutes), Win Explorer starts and everything works fine from there. Same situation occurs when I want do download a file - the browser for choosing the right place to save also slows down and can be out for minutes.

Any function in BD that may cause this?

I'm running Win 7 Pro 64bit

Web browser is Firefox

I am using the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate and noticed the identical problem shortly after installing Bitdefender AV 2013. This problem manifests itself regardless of what browser is or is not being used as it also occurs when opening Windows Explorer or any other file manager application such as Directory Opus or PowerDesk. Any assistance with this issue will be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

Since a few weeks I also have the problem that after a reboot icons in the Start Menu and in the Explorer screen stay blank for almost a minute and when I select or try to open them my whole computer freezes up and stops responding. At first I had it on one of my laptops so I re-installed Windows and everything, but after installing and updating Bitdefender Total Sec. 2013 the trouble starts again.

Since yesterday I noticed my other computer is also showing these symptoms.

They both have Windows 7 Ent. 64 bits, Office 2010 Ent. and run Firefox. Nothing fancy going on there.

I've seen advises on this forum from almost a year back to turn off the 'aggressive' mode on the virusscanner, but that doesn't seems to work.

It is really annoying because Bitdefender used to be fairly light on the background but now it just ######.

    Please fix this problem!!

  • Disable AVC and switch the Bitdefender to User Mode.
