Repeated Slow Downs And Lock Ups With Windows 7
I have been having chronic problems with slow downs and lock ups in Windows 7 and Office 2003 programs. I have found no good answers but have discovered if I uninstall Bitdefender (not just Repair), then restart the computer, my problems are gone. Then I can re-install. Things go along OK for a day or two and then, most often after allowing my computer to go to sleep for the night and reawakening in the am, my problems are back...and Bidefender is logging a host of supposed Trojan infections. Has any one else experienced a similar problem. Is there something profoundly wrong with the marriage of Bitdefender and Windows 7?

I mostly am using my XP Pro 32bit desktop computer, I have bitdefender also installed on my windows 7 ultimate 64bit laptop but I don't use it very much.
I have BitDefender Total Security 2012, I am not sure what version you have or if you just have the A/V and not the Total with the firewall.
For the antivirus I go into Settings -> Antivirus and under Exclusions I have "Activate exclusions for files" turned on.
Then under the link for "Excluded files and folders" I ADD a new exclusion and browse to the specific executable files I want to have excluded and then I add exclusions for the entire folder itself for whatever software I don't want scanned in my Program Files or Program Files x86 folder which windows 7 64bit has both.
If you also have the firewall.
In the settings window I click on the Firewall option from the left menu and click on the Advanced Tab.
I scan through the listing for the specific application and also any Denied rules to verify it is something I want actually denied or disallowed to run.
If there is something that should be allowed and it is not I edit that rule to allow everything.
If the application is NOT added then I add a new rule and allow that application.
Now before you start adding rules to the firewall first go to the "Home" window which is the first screen you see when you SHOW bitdefender.
Click on Events.
Select Firewall and then Intrusion detection.
Select each event and see if it is anything to do with Office or whatever applications are not working because BD is stopping the application from running.
Click on the ALLOW button and that will add an ALLOW rule in the firewall automatically for you.
If you do NOT have the TOTAL version of BD then the firewall part might not apply but it sounds like that is what is happening to me, the firewall is shutting it down.
You can also check the Qurantine for the antivirus to see if anything is moved in there and restore them, which I think auto excludes them at the sametime from future scans but I am not sure on that.
If you do have the Total version and your browser is SLOW SLOW SLOW, what has helped me is turning off the anti phishing option and the browser toolbar stuff.
I have also repaired Bitdifender which uninstalls the software and then reinstalls it and this has worked until I rebooted and then things get slow again and all my settings are erased so for me my custom software and various aspects of windows itself is prevented from loading so I have to open Windows into either safe mode or manually open explorer and open bitdefender to manually allow the programs and windows supporting applications to run. Annoying but things work again when I do that.
I have a custom setup so my situation is different than most.0 -

I am having this as well. I also seem to suffer with an issue whene after I login to windows I have to wait a long time before desktop becomes available and it may sometimes even stay black for few minutes, showing sometimes the mouse pointer. These issues started only happening after installing Antivirus 2012.
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. I'll be sending the support tool report as well.
I am using Comodo as firewall.0 -

" /> I have the same problem, bit defender almost locks the computer up, and the hard drive (boot drive is a 60Gig SSD type, sata type 3 is maxed out on I/O, and the processor and core are maxed. (Pentium 2500K) This really started about Mid February, so I think some "update" to bit defender is causing the problems. Any ideas? the computer becomes unusable for several minutes at a time. Uninstall bit defender, all is good.

I have just noticed this post, having just endured a 20 minute freeze of Windows 7 while Bitdefender updated and did god knows what else. Likewise if I de-activate Bitdefender, there is no freezing up or slow downs. Any way to resolve this?0 -

Hi dmackay41
These older forums don't receive the attention as the newer version forums (2013-2014 The New Bitdefender). Have you tried the newer version, you are entitled to a free upgrade: http://forum.bitdefender.com/index.php?act...f=366&id=58
If you wanted to upgrade, be sure to use the 2012 uninstall tool after using the normal uninstall method, and run CCleaner and look for any leftover BD reg. keys, delete them, and install the new version. This way too, you can receive better attention on The New Bitdefender forum.
Kind regards,
