Another Winxp Crash
Hello Team,
My computer froze when I clicked the bitdefender icon from the system tray (when I wanted to check my settings).
So, I manually restarted my computer, but then it froze again after I logged in to windows!
I've had freeze on login numerous times....which was what my previous post was about.
I'm pretty positive that these two issues are related, which is to say that both these instances of freezing the OS are being caused by the same thing.
So, I had no choice but to restart again. This time windows was able to fully load. So I clicked the BD icon from the system tray and opened up its Settings.
I clicked through the various tabs to see if anything was awry, and i noticed that it was responding a bit sluggish when clicking the different tabs.
And then guess what.....windows froze on me there too!
How annoying! I had choice but restart again....this time without touching bitdefender.
My question to the bitdefender team is this: What Is Going On With Your Software? Can the Bitdefender Engineers please look into this bug!
Thanks for reading this long-winded post,
Regards.

G’Day “BDTS08 User”
I am a forum member like you and not part of this forum team !!
Believing that you have no other active software Security or Anti-Virus, etc installed on your PC and BDTS2208 is the only one of its type that you are using, I suggest that you uninstall the program, re-boot, clean out the content of the Recycle Bin and any other Temp folder content, and simply re-install BDTS2008.
The reason I say that is, because I have at times experienced the same problem while installing BDIS and BDTS 2008 on customers PC’s.
We had noticed that a bad installation occurred often when during the installation of BD, we selected to allow the installation to download the latest or newer version.
We now do not do that anymore and have had less issues with the BD installations.
I would strongly advise also that you read the stepping screens and look at the logic of what the installation does or will do and then decide what you should uncheck. An example is the window that has 3 options and the last one is ‘to perform a virus scan at 2am” bit silly for most of us as we don’t have our systems “On” at that time.
Ok, give that a go – The other reason that your system is behaving slow can of course be the fact that you may not have emptied the Recycle Bin and other Temp folder content and have not defragmented your Hard Drive. (responsible for 65% of reported slow PC systems)
In the Internet Properties, also check the Browser History [settings] and if the disk space used is higher than 70, change it to 70, 64 or 32 and apply [OK] the settings and then clean out the temp rubbish in the Browser [Delete] options. Temp Internet Files and Cookies are the important ones to clean out. If you have not done this before, then the Internet files may take some time, if so a window will popup tio indicate the progress of the action. For whatever unknown reason, Microsoft at one time allocated 10% of the hard disk to the Temp accumulation of browsing history files, which was un-necessary and excessive for even systems in use by ISP’s.

Dear BDTS08 User,
It isn't necessary to immediately reboot your pc. When the problem occurs can you please try this open task manager. You can do this as follow: press the windows button together with r on your keyboard now type taskmgr or pressing the control + alt and delete button together. Now double click on the CPU colom untill you see the highest cpu % value listed on top. Please post the process name. If you want to end that process click on it and press on end process.
Do you have that issue on all your user accounts?
To see if it isn't a windows issue please try this put in your windows installation cd-rom now press the windows button together with r now type cmd press enter. Type sfc /scannow press enter and let it finish.
I recommend that you first try a repair installation but first right click on the BitDefender icon near the system clock and press exit. Now put in your installation cd-rom or double click on the installer that you have downloaded follow the steps but select repair. If the problem still occurs exit BitDefender once again but now use this BitDefender removal tool.Even when you used this tool reboot one more time your computer before installing BitDefender again.
Best regards

Thanks for your responses guys.
I guess the only option I can really try is completely uninstall and then reinstall. (I've tried the repair option, but that did not solve anything)
Niels:
I wish I could open task manager and the run dialog, but the computer is frozen....meaning I can't do anything. So when it freezes at 3:15pm and I wait for it to respond after 10 minutes, the system clock will still display 3:15pm.
Also, just because I'm curious:
What is special about this bitdefender removal tool that I should use over the uninstaller that came with the package I paid for? Or even uninstalling through windows?

Dear BDTS08 User,
For the freeze at the windows login try this work around unplug your network cable and plug it in your computer when you are at your windows desktop. If the freezing only happens once when you click on the BitDefender icon than the chance is high that your installation went wrong.
The special BitDefender removal tool removes registry entries and also all folders and the content inside other location instead of only the default installation directory which is in Program Files. And and also the install package located in the windows installer folder. Which could prevent you to install BitDefender or repair BitDefender again.
Best regards

Ahh...that is very interesting.
I've used the special uninstaller, but somethings caught my attention. here is a screen grab:
That can't be normal, can it? Maybe it's proof of a bad install???
Thanks0 -
The screenshot look OK.
The Uninstall tool is made to look for (and remove) all versions of BitDefender, not just the one you have installed.
Therefore, when it was looking for v7, v8, v9 and v10, it failed to find the installation paths, because you don't have them installed. It's absolutely normal.
The idea of the installer is that is looks and removes all traces of BD products, even if they were already uninstalled, or they were damaged, or whatever. So it practically forces things, and looks for everything, disregarding what product you "should" have installed.

Dear BDTS08 User,
That is normal because the tool removed everything.
