Thunderbird Toolbar and IMAP - Business as usual??

Does this version finally support IMAP for antispam etc?

Does the Thunderbird toolbar/enabling SSL scanning still kill Thunderbird? (I've seen it corrupt mailboxes).

Can I turn on/turn off scanning for firewire devices?


You know what a lot of customer want, not bloatware. My renewal comes up in 28 days so I guess I will vote with my feel otherwise.

    1. No


    2. This not a known issue, might be reproducing on your setup in that situation I would recommend contacting our support. Please note that even though everything works while Scan SSL is disabled the conflict can come from other sources.


    3. You can disable scanning for USB devices, if you have a firewire hard-drive it should get treated as a USB one.


    Passive aggressive remarks are not tolerated on this forum, please keep that in mind before posting.

    1) I believe this is a huge oversight as every man and his dog uses it. I'm really surprised it is not implemented it.


    2a) SSL issue is well known if you scan the Mozilla and bitdefender forums.


    2b) Thunderbird toolbar being broken is a well known issue, I had politely contacted support a long time ago twice and got no response. Others have reported it and had given up, I've also dealt with a customer who got his mailbox corrupted when he installed the toolbar. See link.


    3) I don't see any documentation about this, there is no mention of firewire anywhere. I have a firewire audio interface plugged in at all times, and I don't want scanning going anywhere near this, However with USB drivers I do need scanning. I know at least one rival product which I won't name here that separates these technologies, and correctly identifies them to avoid confusion.


    Please don't take this as passive aggression or take anything personally, take this as frustration.

    I set "Scan USB devices" to "Ask every time". Turning off/on a firewire device does not prompt for anything.

    Is it possible I can get an update on the Thunderbird and SSL issue (2a + 2b)? As shown on my link it is a well known issue. I recommended a friend Bitdefender a few months ago and the toolbar actually corrupted his inbox (just like me), and I felt some sort of responsibility for doing this to be honest.


    Sorry to ask again about (3) but what exactly does this do. I am very concerned about keeping latency down to a minimum as my environment is used for studio recording,


    Also what do we do about feature requests? (1).

    I would also advise your friend to do the same, as experience tells me the same issue can occur from different sources.


    The Scan USB device will not tamper with your latency. That feature allows the product to scan USB devices when they are plugged in.

    OK thanks. The only thing is I'm not going to install that Thunderbird toolbar again until this is fixed, it corrupts email. I'm not sure the logs are going to be up to date as I've done clean full reinstalls since then. Are you able to install the latest Thunderbird, set up IMAP/POP/SMTP with SSL, and then bitdefender and test the behaviour sending and receiving emails. This is easily reproduced.


    The USB device - I basically need granular control here. I want it to scan USB hard drives as I use them all the time transferring projects from one person to another, I don't want it to scan Firewire. At present you are saying it works for both (which is not ideal but hey ho). However my tests question whether this functionality does actually scan firewire, because if I set "Scan USB devices" to "Ask every time", turning off/on a firewire device does not prompt for anything. However it does that when I put in a USB stick or USB whatever. The behaviour appears inconsistent. Also I don't see any change in latency with the firewire driver whether this is on or off. I'm not saying I don't believe you, but I don't see anything to convince me this is actually happening.

    Well I didn't get a response for previous post, and I did write to response and didn't get a response from support again (what I did over a year ago)...


    With the Thunderbird issue I really do hope you can understand my frustration now, as I feel I'm ultimately being ignored, I can't see why this can't see why nobody can take the time to reproduce this esp when there is data corruption involved. The second post I made points to a link where other community members acknowledge the issue so I'm not a loner in all this. This has happened with every PC I've tried.


    As far as the firewire detection is concerned, see my previous post.

    Well I've tried to get this recognised as an issue for over a year now and now I totally give up and accept that nobody is prepared to test/admit this is an issue, or respond via support channels.


    So please just forget it then... and please don't forget to also tell me off again by mistaking my frustration for passive aggression or something which will just make it worse. I'm now totally done.
