Additionally, remove the device from your Bitdefender Central account. Then try to protect your device again or run the installer.

thanks for the help I have deleted it from bitdefender central what should I do next?

If you followed the recommendations suggested by @Flexx, there are no remnants of the previous installation on your device.
Run the Bitdefender installer again, when reinstalling, enter your registration data in Bitdefender Central that you filled in before.

I suggest downloading the web installer again: https://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/free.html
Check the following before the new installation
1. Click the keys (Win + R) on your keyboard.
2. Enter (appwiz.cpl) in the command window and click Enter.
See what Bitdefender components are left or not?

Try checking your system for corrupted or missing system files. Take advantage of this hint - https://support.microsoft.com/ru-ru/help/929833/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system
Check the system disk follow this prompt - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/technet-magazine/ee872425(v=msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

As stated by @Alex_A try using system file checker (sfc) using the link that was provided. If any errors are found, it will be repaired. If sfc is unable to repair any error, move forward and use the dism command. Note that dism commands needs internet connectivity in order to replace the corrupted files with the proper files which are downloaded directly from the microsoft server.

Run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command directly.

I have tried doing that however no luck.Do u recommend a system reset as my pc is pretty brand new so it would only take about an hour to download everything back or do u suggest anything else

Perhaps this will be a more correct decision than blindly looking for the essence of the problem. Try this "Bitdefender Free" removal utility. Whether the remains were found.

What bit is the operating system on your device? (64 or 32)

My pc alr seems to have some little problems like files being mixed around and accidentally deleted drivers so I’m wondering anyways whether I should reset it to be safe and kill 2 birds with 1 stone as it is a prebuilt pc and I still have warranty so I can always ask the pc company to fix it.Anyways as i said the pc is pretty new so factory resetting it wouldnt really be much of a pain as i dont have much things on it anyways.

It's totally your wish. If you think your PC is really suffering from more than the bitdefender installation error issue, you can go forward and reset your PC. But make sure you have the backup of your data, though windows reset will provide you the option if you want to keep your files and folders and only reset the windows drive. But if you only go for partial reset that is of only windows drive, chances are you will still end up with installation error of bitdefender.
So if you want to reset, go for a full reset & backup your files on an external drive.

I think i would go ahead and do that. Again thanks so much to both of u for trying to help me it means alot to me however out of curiosity, whats the point of backing up the files on a external drive? and how do i do it

Suppose you have a drive "C" and "D" on your device, and the system drive contains the personal information you need, so you save it to another drive. You can restore the system only on the "C" drive. At the same time, without affecting another disk with the necessary information. You don't need to save any system files. But you yourself understand everything, share your successes, for interest

Asking about the bitness of the system, I wanted to offer an offline installer of the antivirus program

Hi @Alex_A
As far as I know the offline installer are only available for total security and not for free antivirus for which the user created this post. If you have the offline installer for the free version I would request you to provide it to keep it as a backup link.

I had the same problem today.
I followed all the tips suggested until now and none worked for.
I had to use a old copy of BitDefender Free installation files I backed on March 2020 to be able to install.
I think something is not working well on the current online installation of BitDefender Free.
