Why does bdservicehost take between 70-80% of CPU usage?
I have just installed Bitdefender and bdservicehost is taking 70-80% of my CPU usage and close to 800M of memory. This is making my laptop virtually unusable and if there is no answer I will have to go back to my previous antivirus. Your website says lowest impact on performance, obviounot true in my case.
Laptop is AZUS Zenbook 14
I also had minor problems with bluetooth mouse and keyboard but that seems to have fixed.
Any suggestions how I can reduce this ?

Hello.

If the tips from that article didn't help, do the following:
-- STEP 1 --
Repair Bitdefender, by following these steps:
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/13429/
-- STEP 2 --
If the instructions from Step 1 didn't help, uninstall the Bitdefender program using the Uninstall Tool.
For Bitdefender Paid version click here:
https://www.bitdefender.com/links/uninstall_consumer_paid.html
For Bitdefender Trial version click here:
https://www.bitdefender.com/links/uninstall_consumer_trial.html
It will completely remove the program.
Next, reinstall Bitdefender from your Bitdefender Central account and see if the issue has been solved, as reinstalling the program usually solves the issues.
-- STEP 3 --
If the instructions from Step 2 didn't help, follow the instructions in this step.
First, take screenshot(s) of the issue
and create a log file on your Windows device using Bitdefender Support Tool, by following these steps:
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/1733/
Next, contact Bitdefender Consumer Support by e-mail:
https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/help/
with short description of the issue.
After that, you will get an automated reply by the Bitdefender Customer Care Team, with your ticket number.
Now, in reply to that automated reply, you can send the screenshot(s) you already took and the log file you already created in the first step.
Since you are all done, just wait for the support engineers to investigate your issue and find a solution to fix the issue.
Remember that the screenshot(s) and the log file will help a lot to the support engineers for better and faster investigation on your issue and finding a solution.
Regards.

Thanks, I reinstall Bitdefender and the CPU usage is down. The machine takes slightly longer to start but that is OK.
One other problem I have is this. I have 2 screens the Laptop and a Dell connected with a HDMI. I find that if I am using EXcel on my laptop screen and another programme on my display if I move the mouse onto the laptop the laptop screen goes black and if I move it back to the Dell display the screen comes back. Have you come across this before? This also happens with other programmes but is most noticeable on Excel.

I had a similar issue... bdservicehost permanently at 30% CPU.
I uninstalled & re-installed Bitdefender and all. This fixed the problem. BUT... fast-forward 2 weeks and the problem re-appeared today... So do I have to repeat the process again?
According to other posts, the issue has been around for months and no fix has been implemented.
I am really disappointed with Bitdefender on this part. I've been a paid user for years. But once my license expires, I will seriously think if I'm gonna renew.

I too have this issue since bitdefender updated to build 26.0.25.84. I did the uninstall with reinstall option. After the service was removed the CPU usage returned to normal as did memory. I then chose to reinstall the Lite version because the installer was forcing to uninstall MalwareBytes. I've never had to uninstall MalwareBytes in the past and do not wish to do so, therefore I chose the Lite option. At first, everything was fine and no CPU issue UNTIL BitDefender did an automatic update to build 26.0.25.84! Now it is back to constantly using about 20% CPU and a higher bit of memory usage. There is obviously some bug in this latest update. I guess I will try reinstalling one more time but only if I can prevent it from auto update to this version. I also need to find a way to keep MalwareBytes. It is getting to where I may have to cancel BitDefender and find some other Internet Security suite. Also, whenever I try to click on Support my browser just continues searching and never seems to open the support page on either Firefox or Chrome. I need to find a way to email BitDefender to see what they have to say and if no fix then to see about getting a partial refund for a broken program. Thanks all!

Same problem as AlanSmith: with version 26.0.25.84 high CPU and high memory usage. Uninstalled and reinstalled. No problem as long as BD has automatically upgraded to version 26.0.25.84.
Waiting for a patch... but my subscription expires soon: renew or not to reniew?

I repeated the process yesterday... I read somewhere that disabling silent updates could help. So I thought I'd give it a try. Indeed I received a notification but updated the program because I thought it wasn't the update that was causing the issue and that a patch was released. Well, now I am back to square 0 with CPU at 20%.
I am going to try the suggested workaround, but honestly, this is ridiculous.

I noticed that I have problem with version 26.0.25.84 only on my Asus desktop, while no problem with same version of BD on my MS Surface Go2. Both with updated Windows 10 home

That's enough re-installs for a week. I think I'll pass for now.
If the problem re-appears I will give it a try. Thx.

Just a reminder, BD releases its updates in staged rollouts. So your region may have this update ready to download, or it may be 2-3 days later, depending on where you're at. In the central US location, my updates arrive about 1 week later after the first mention of the update occurring. Updates can also be tracked here:
