Windows 11 computer gets slower and slower loading pages and programs
I've been using Bitdefender for a few months now. It seems that everything I open (programs, web pages, etc. takes a LONG time to load! I've tried running Ashampoo Windows optimizer, which clears caches and other things known to slow computers. It is annoying, because I have to look up my password on each program I use afterwards!
I don't think it should take 15 to 20 seconds or longer each time I switch screens or load websites.
If anyone has a fix for this, PLEASE send detailed, easy directions to fix! I've seen other suggestions to fix, and they are often full of alphabet soup actions and very complicated steps to try to fix. I'll start trying one of them and get lost in the detail. I especially don't want to have to dive deeply into registries, etc. as a mistake can really mess up my computer!

Confirmed on av-comparative test https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/performance-test-september-2024/

I am beginning to question this company's support for their customers. At best, it is very clumsy.

Well, if you ask me, I think it's debatable, because there are so many variables involved here. It's generally agreed upon that some devices may encounter a slowdown after installing an antivirus. And depending on their configuration and processor, this slowdown can be prominent or not. As per the system requirements description, system performance may also be affected on devices that have old generation CPUs. If that's not the case, we move on to other possible causes or things that may interefere with the proper functionality of the antivirus, or the antivirus itself may slow down a system that is already in a bad state.
So far, we learned that slowdown can occur if other security solutions are installed, if the device is already infected, if unwanted programs run in the background, taking up disk space and memory, if the hard disk drives are too fragmented, if data is corrupted, if hardware is obsolete or faulty, if the device is damaged in any other way, etc.Of course, I do not exclude certain antivirus behaviour in conjuction with other tasks on the device and things that may require optimization from time to time, but this is where the updates come in handy and I'm sure improvements are made with each new build, so that the antivirus can become lighter on computer resources.

May I ask how did you come up to this conclusion? Can you share more details regarding your past experiences with the Support teams and what exactly did not meet your expectations? Your detailed feedback would prove very helpful to them and I can pass this along.
Thanks!

Thanks for asking! Not everything loads slowly, especially many programs. When I clicked on this email, it took 20 seconds to open. Other things that are slow include opening online comics sites, such as gocomics.com, Amazon.com, Facebook, etc. When I have a comics site open, it takes several seconds to click on the area to leave comments, even to "like" the comic.
In contrast, when I clicked to open the Paint program, it opened right away, as did File Explorer.
A while ago, I replied to the support team and even made a recording for them of a very slowly opening web page. I think it was ticket 009587396 in mid-October.
They had asked me to clear caches, etc., which I had done several times in that timeframe. I don't like keeping on doing this, as I have to supply a lot of information, including 2-step verifications for a lot of sites I tend to visit a lot. This had not solved the problem, either.
I had found traces of old antivirus add-ons that had been deactivated, then deleted them. I had also done troubleshooting with my Microsoft account that didn't open at all, but the fix only needed a change in password. This made no difference in slow-loading and responding web pages.
Please offer any other potential solutions (PLEASE don't keep asking me to clear cache, cookies, etc. It's a real mess to recover from and I've done it a lot without change to my problem)!
Thank you!

Addendum: I have checked various problems (like disk fragmentation, leftover traces, etc.) by running Ashampoo Windows Optimizer. I've also checked for any traces of Webroot or Norton programs and deleted everything I found.

@BJones I guess this will require a closer look in Support. Unfortunately, without the needed logs and setup information, we can only make assumptions here, which most likely won't solve the issues you are encountering. Based on my findings, you were given a few steps to try some time ago, by the Support teams. If the slowdown persists or has resurfaced, I think it's best to get in touch with them again, for a more detailed investigation, and maybe even remote intervention, if necessary.
