Not Happy!

Hi all

As you can tell from the heading, I'm not very happy with BT Antivirus 09. On the basis of the recommendation found at the following website, I purchased BT in Jan this year:

http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

Since I installed BT, I've had no end of problems with it. I'm writing this post in the hopes that someone can help me given that BT support have not responded to my email Ticket ID:200903091002449.

Follwing installation of BT, it was taking 40 minutes to 2 hours for my computer to boot up <img class=" /> . Needless to say this was driving me nuts!! The computer is 4 years old uses Windows XP and has 1.5 gig memory. Although I thought BT was the culprit (I had accumulated a lot of junk over 4 years), the only way I could find out definatively was to do a full reformat of my hard drive, which I did. It took me a whole day to do this. After the reformatting, the computer was working wonderfully, so I reinstalled BT - Guess what happened?? The computer kept freezing during the boot up. I turned it on and off 5 times and every time, it just froze half way through the boot up. There was nothing I could do other than another full reformatting of the HDD all over again as I coulnd't unintall BT as the computer wouldn't boot. <img class=" /><img class=" />

I can't reinstall BT as no doubt the computer will freeze on booting again and I don't have another day to waste on reformatting. I live in Australia and the Australian distributer cannot be contacted by phone and any problems or customer support requests defaults to the US - I'm not phoning the US as it would cost more than the purchase of BT!!! I've sent and email to the customer support service, but haven't heard back from them.

So now I'm stuck with a piece of software I can't use, which cost me AU$37.44, I'm not getting any response or help from the BT tech people wherever they may be, and I'm using AVG free download antivirus until such times as they get back to me.

So that's why I'm not happy!!!! If anyone out there is able to suggest something I can do to overcome this problem, I would be most appreciative.

Thanks for letting me vent! <img class=" />

    Thanks Diana

Have send a response email. I was unable to create a sysdump.tar file as explained in the tutorial and have sent you a notepad capture of what the sysdump.exe found. Hope this helps.

I should have read this forum before I purchased BD antivirus - seeing all the problems that other people have experienced would have put me off!

The other thing is that I have wasted so many of my license days not being able to use BD, that if it ever gets running properly again (if not, I will be asking for a refund!) I would expect to have my license extended to cover lost days.

Honestly - should this all be so hard???? I've never had any sort of software problems in the last 15 years like I have had with this product!

    Many thanks

  • Dear Lily,

    I don't have access to your ticket-id.

When you have installed BitDefender, please keep the left shift button pressed after you have seen the BIOS screen.

Can you please do this press the windows button together with r now type this in the blank field next to open: msconfig press enter go to the boot.ini tab please check /BOOTLOG press on apply and ok. Please reboot your pc. Now a bootlog will be created. After the reboot : go to start,(my) computer, double click on the drive letter of your hard disk, open the windows folder (by double clicking on it). Please copy the content of Ntbtlog to your next post. Donot press the left shift button the first time you don't get into windows. After you have rebooted press the the shift button again and provide the bootlog.

You should understand that people only post when they have problems. What most people forget that there are customers who don't have issues. Every computer configuration is different. I mean different software installed, device drivers for hardware,....

    Kind regards,

    Niels

  • Hi Niels

Diana has access to my ticket and I have just emailed her my computer system information.

Thanks for your suggestion, but under no circumstances will I be re-installing BD antivirus 09 again until I have a definitive response from Diana as to why it is affecting the booting of my computer and what I need to do to remedy it......I couldn't stand to do a full HDD reformat for a 3rd time.

  • Lily,

Please post if you get an answer that fixes your problems as I am experiencing the same thing. Computer takes up to 20 minutes to boot w/ BD Antivirus 09 installed, but only 90 seconds or less without. I feel your pain!

    Thanks!

I am running BD Antivirus 2009 with Zone Alarm Pro 7.0.483.000. It runs fine with Bitdefender if you switch off antivirus monitoring in Zone Alarm and Identity Protection in Zone Alarm.

Before I tried out Bitdefender I tried to upgrade to version 8 of Zone Alarm. It crashed my XP system and would not load up the desktop. I was told by the folk on the Zone Alarm forum to revert back to version 7.0.483.000 because a lot of folk had a problem. I had no problems when I turned back to the older product.

If you have the newer version of Zone Alarm .. maybe you should uninstall it using their special uninstaller (there is one made by Zone Alarm to remove traces and reinstall the earlier version. Alternatively get the full BD suite.

There is clearly a conflict somewhere .. it is harder to find software that doesn't conflict and it is why most push you to go for the full suite and they all seem to provide special removal tool as opposed to the program's uninstaller!

    Hi Rexxxx

I am currently trialling BD Total Security 09 and so far, so good. The problem I was having was apparently caused by an incompatibility between BD Antivirus and Zone Alarm. I removed Zone Alarm and with Total Security, there is obviously no incompatibility between the firewall and antivirus.

Thanks very much to Diana for her patience and assistance. It has been much appreciated. :)

    Cheers
