Bitdefender Total Security 2009 Will Not Scan

In Advanced View, selecting "Antivirus" from table/tabs on left and selecting Virus Scan tab from above . . . . "system tasks" reveals nothing. "User Tasks" shows folder entitled 'my documents' and I got it to run. Misc Tasks shows "Contextual Scen" and "Device Detection".

In Basic View, on the right hand column under "Tasks" there is a tab with 'update now' this seeems to work. It responds to a click. Then there is a tab 'my documents scan' this also seems to respond. Then there are Full system scan, Deep system scan and Vulnerability scan. These worked every time until yesterday/this morning. Now the latter three do not respond.

Meanwhile, I have something impairing my internet web browser in that there are thick black lines running across the tool bar.

I believe this must be malware or a virus. But my Bitdefender is not responding, so I am not finding a solution - but instead finding myself trying to get bitdefender to do its thing.

Anyone know what's going on here?

I had run a program called "RegTool" to clean out old stuff resident on the computer. Also downloaded updates from MSN. Are these the cause? Is there even a capacity to do these scans any more - or does that first bit of information suggests that these three types of scan functions have been erased or wiped out, overwritten or whatever.

PLEASE HELP!

    jenandgeege,

    Try this -

One of miy computers was a total mess where response was measured in minutes instead of seconds. I removed the Anti-Virus software (which wasn't BD) and installed freeware from MalwareBytes (.org I think). I also removed a number of programs thate were not being used from the machine. I then did a scan with MalWareBytes and it discovered a ton of Virus scan which I believed were put there from a Registry scan program that I had once tried. After doing this the machine is now running like a new machine.

I'm still undecided about BD but you can upgrade to BD 2010 and give it a try if you want. I've installed it on a Vista machine and an XP machine and so far I'm not impressed. It looks like they just put a new face on the pig. I've had to force re-boot the XP machine because it was tied up in knots.

Keep us posted on what you find out!
