Remote Desktop Connect
Hello,
I can't connect through RDC although the VPN works fine. I've followed many posts that suggest modifying the mstsc.exe rule to include 3389 as the local port and 1024-65535 as the remote port. However, every time I do this the local port reverts back to "RDP". I don't know if this is the problem, or if it's something related.
I've sent several emails to customer support and have been waiting about a month for a response.
thanks.

justin323r - welcome to the BD forum!
Which BD product are you using - IS or TS (I'm assuming 2011 since you posted in the 2011 forum)?
And, what OS are you running - XP, Vista, 7, 32-bit, 64-bit?
It may help the techs if they know your configuration.
Thanks,0 -

First at all be sure the port is open in Windows Firewall and Remote Administration is enabled in My Computer properties. Second: add rule for windows\system32\svchost.exe in firewall "adapter-any, cmd. line-any, protocol-TCP, network events-all, local port -3389, remote-port- any, local-yes, action-permit. And third step if you use wireless go to Network>Zones>+ (means Add Zone) and add the machine's IP from which you are starting the remote connection. Good luck!0 -

thanks for the input. I'm using 64 bit vista, and I have IS 2011.
First, I disabled windows firewall so I'm not sure the port matters and remote administration is enabled. Second, I tried to add a rule, but when I look on the list it doesn't show up. I see probably 15 or so rules for svchost.exe, but none for port 3389 even though I tried several times to add one. Third, I'm not sure how to add a zone. Can you be more explicit?

Hi Justin,
Please look at the screenshot I've attached. Also please provide me with the file below:
C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011\settings\Firewall\rules.xml
You can upload the file HERE then send me a PM (private message) with the download link.
Hello DanyDan,
It's not as if you were going to reply, anyway. But, if you were thinking about it, don't bother. I've solved all my problems. Goodbye Bit defender, hello Symantec. I should have done this weeks ago. As they say where I'm from, it's never too early to get off a dead horse.0
