Problems After Installing Bd Total Security 2011
System: WinXP SP3 - 32bits
CPU: Intel Quadcore Q6600
RAM: 4GB (3.25GB Usable)
Problems:
1. System tray icon disappearance
ASUS utility/ATI Catalyst Control/Norton Ghost/TruDirectTray/(even BD Agent) just disappeared from the system tray after a reboot a day after BD was installed. I was able to get BD back using its repair option. Others are still missing. I have only TruDirectTray and Logitech Setpoint in my startup menu. Logitech Setpoint remains intact.
2. Firefox abnormality
Noticed significant slow down. I leave the computer on 24 hrs and when try to view a page first thing in the morning (Firefox was on the previous night with the pages already open), it would take the browser a good 2 to 3 minutes to react.
After firefox preiodically updates the latest version of add-ons and restarts itself, it would be completely dead. I tried to open it manually but got a "Firefox already running, please restart your system" message.
3. Unscheduled BD full scan
I've set the full system scan to weekly but it would start on its own after the computer was left idling. When I come back I would see a "scan paused by user" message. By the way, hiberation/sleep mode is disabled on my computer.
Hi Danydan,
I've already sent sent you a PM with logs generated by supporttool.exe.

Sounds a little like my problems with BitDefender.
I think that the issue with the dissapearing icons in the tray area, is something which happens to alot of people with BitDefender 2011, it's just that it's not everyone who ever takes notice of it and then don't realize it.
Try and see if all your files now have there filenames visible as well, because that also happened to me after the icons dissapeared from the tray area.
The problems you experience, just reassures me that it's definitely a problem related to BitDefender 2011. Maybe incompatibility issues.
Such a shame, as the 2010 version seemed to be flawless.
Hope that BitDefender will realize this and maybe fix these problem.

I think I can help you with problem #3. The setting is on a different tab in BDTS (Tune-up-->Optimization), but look at this topic showing the Optimization tab in BDAV.

Uncheck any of the checked option boxes. That's what I did on my systems to reduce the extra HDD activity.

Thanks for your reply. I unchecjed the box and will keep an eye on the system for the next few days to see if the problem goes away.
For anyone else with the same problem, BD Total Security 2011 has Opimization tab listed under Tune-up.0 -

Thanks for your reply, but I'm not sure if I understand what you meant by "filenames visible". Did BD change your files' attribute to "hidden"? I don't think that's what happened to me. (at least not for Norton Ghost)0 -

What i meant was, that all the file name extensions are now visible. As an example if you see a txt file it now shows the extension ".txt" which is hidden by default. Show or hide file name extensions
It's just a minor issue, but nevertheless annoying.
Good luck,0 -

Hi airdenmark,
I do recall the file extensions were showing at one point. In addition, I usually show all my hidden files and folders, but BD somehow switched to hide them. I had to set it back to show all in file explorer. But that only happened to me once, same goes with the file extension issue. Hopefully the problem won't come back.0 -
Hi,
BD support missed my scheduled remote support session last week (Oct 16, 2010) without giving a reason nor a alternative date for another session. I can understand if everyone was busy and wouldn't have any problems rescheduling my appointment at a later time. But It has been a week since then and there wasn't any contact whatsoever from BD support despite numerous emails that I have sent. My patience is wearing thin and my problem is still not resolved. I have decided to abandon BD software and go back to the brand I've used for the past few years.
Please have someone contact me regarding the treatment I've received and forward my case to your sales department for a full refund. Thank you.0 -
Hello,
I wish to apologize, the remote being missed was entirely my fault. I have sent your request to my colleagues from the Sales department for resolution.
