I don't think you can turn off SSL scanning, but you can add websites that you want to exclude from scanning separately.

As fas as I can remember, TinyWall has autolearn mode, which would allow access to all bitdefender executables requiring it. Try it , should work.

Active Threat Control is included, along with on-access scanning and web protection feature. Read Bitdefender Free User Guide (available to download in PDF) from the first post in this forum.

Free version doesn't have active ransomware protection module, but I'm sure it can still protect against known variants of ransomware through it's on-access scanning and Active Threat Control features.

You just have to select either 32bit or 64 bit version for your pc.

My Bitdefender Free Edition for the last 4+ hrs is still on update version 7.66297 with the signature number 7110319. Maybe some issue with Free Bitdefender update servers ?

I'm using it on Windows 8.1 64bit and it works perfectly. Very light on the system and powerful AV at the same time.

I assume you have autopilot set to off, that's why you are getting notifications when ports are scanned. Turning it on would be the easiest way of not getting notifications. Hope it helps

+1 There is no logic in having option to turn off services that you don't use but they're still running in the background .. This has to be a bug and it needs to be fixed.
