Safe Sites

When browsing, no sites show as safe or unsafe. I believe I have everything set properly.

  • Thanks for replying. Not really sure what the TrafficLight is. I use Google Chrome. My previous anti-virus would show either a green (safe) or grey (unsafe) mark next to sites pulled up from browsing a certain topic or item. Bitdefender shows nothing. That's my concern.

  • Hello @lady74,

Bitdefender will not display safe or dangerous labels in the browser by default.

To enable this extra layer of protection, you can install the Traffic Light extension. This extension scans the pages you visit for malware & phishing attempts, blocks dangerous websites, and flags dangerous links in your search results. The browser extension is available at the link below:

    https://www.bitdefender.com/en-us/consumer/trafficlight

After clicking on Get extension the Bitdefender Traffic Light page will open in Google Chrome. Click the Free Download button:

You will be redirected to Chrome Web Store. Click Add to Chrome to install TrafficLight:

Then click the Add extension button in the overlay window to finish the installation:

As soon as the TrafficLight extension is added to Chrome, its icon (a white tick in a green circle) will appear to the right of your address bar.

Now, I think it's important to mention that even without this extension, Bitdefender will still protect you from landing on malicious websites. Bitdefender's web protection filters all Internet traffic by scanning the connections for malicious and fraudulent content intent and is a built-in-feature that scans and blocks malicious websites in real-time. It works system-wide, meaning it monitors all network traffic and web activity, regardless of which browser or app you are using. This ensures that any web-based threats are caught, whether you’re using a browser, an app, or even third-party tools. It doesn't require any manual interaction.

On the other hand, Traffic Light is a browser extension that works specifically within supported browsers (like Safari, Chrome, Firefox, etc.). It helps by analyzing individual web pages, even before you click on links, and offers visual indicators (green, yellow, or red) to show whether the site is safe, suspicious, or dangerous. It also warns about dangerous links in search results, email, and social media. Since it is a browser extension, it only works within the browser where it's installed. It provides more granular and immediate feedback by marking individual links on a webpage or in search results, even before you visit them. It does require installation and activation on each browser you use.

Together, they can provide a layered protection. So, to sum it up, Bitdefender basically ensures that you are protected across all apps and browsers, while Traffic Light adds an extra layer of protection in your browser, giving you more immediate and visual feedback about the safety of individual links before you click on them.

I hope the information is useful.
