I am coming from Norton Internet Security Software. Their way of controlling the license/activation is not perfect. If I re-installed Windows, I will loose one activation (out of 3 activation or users per license). Then I have to talk to the customer support to get one activation back.
I understand the need to control license and activation to mitigate the piracy issue, but the way Norton do it is annoying.
I am testing out BitDefender 2011 right now. It looks good and work well. My concern right now is how BitDefender enforce the license/activation issue.
From reading questions and replies on this forum, I think BitDefender simply count the number of simultaneous usages. A security software is worthless if it doesn't update continuously. Thus, by counting how many unique computers (with the same license number) that try to update virus definition, BitDefender company can tell a particular license has how many users.
If what I thought is correct, this method of license control is very user-friendly. As long as at any point in time, you only have up to 3 computers using BitDefender of the same license, you are ok. If your windows crashed, just reinstall Windows and BitDefender and you will be ok. If you want to migrate your license, just stop using the old machine, put BitDefender on the new machine and you will be ok.
If this is true, I think it's a great and honorable way to treat the customers. Does anyone confirm what I thought is correct?
