Bdis 2011 Failure Message On Startup

Bitdefender Internet Security 2011

Shortly after starting up my PC running XP SP2 an error message from Bitdefender say that BD has failed and must close. Two options are presented. Either OK or DEBUG. Clicking on DEBUG causes the window to close and nothing else happens. BDIS seems to be still running, there is still the red ball in the lower RH corner and the message is Protected, no issues....

VSSERV.EXE is still running, using lots of CPU cycles (That's another ongoing problem.)

The BD failure message started within the last week after a major auto update to the product software.

How do I know whether I am still really protected?

  • You didn't mention if your WinXP is 32 or 64-bit, but I'm assuming it's probably 32-bit. If that's the case, the minimum system requirements for BDIS on WinXP is SP3. Is there a reason you haven't upgraded WinXP to SP3?

Do you have any other security type programs installed on your PC?

    Regards,

Right! I am WinXP 32 bit mode. I missed the requirement for SP3 I had tried SP2 to SP3 upgrade in the past and had issues. I tried it again and I am now running SP3. HOWEVER, This AM I still got the same BDIS error message after bootup. I am NOT running any other spywhere programs. I have deleted any from a list that BD support told me about. The latter was to try to identify the high VSSERV.EXE CPU usage.

  • Now that you have upgraded to XP SP3, did you reinstall BD since it may have not been installed correctly under SP2? If not, I would recommend uninstalling BD with the Uninstall Tool and re-installing it.

Let us know how you make out,

I upgraded to XP SP3, deinstalled and the re-installed BDIS 2011. Error message I had received previously has gone. During the install did receive the message that "grpconv" file was missing 3 times. Ignoring this the install seems to go long fine. BDIS seems to be running OK other than the ongoing high VSSERV.EXE CPU usage!
