Blocking P2p (edonkey)

On my Draytek Router firewall, I am getting P2p Block (eDonkey) attempting to use a number of ports to access the Internet, and since my pc is a new build Windows 7 and I have never used P2P, I am at a lose where this is coming from. I have Bitdefender Total Security 2011 running.

Does any know how I can block this in Bitdefender, I have tried blocking ports, but then I find it just jumps to the next port.

Thanks

  • Hello,

You can set a Firewall rule to block the software you use for the P2P (eDonkey). Follow the steps below and add the executable file as a rule to be BLOCKED by BitDefender Firewall.

Still I can't understand where is the connection between your router blocking P2P traffic and BitDefender. You should contact your router manufacturer and ask them for instructions.

Also I do believe that the P2P notifications you get is from the new BitDefender 2011 feature to allow updated files to be sent (uploaded) from your PC to other BitDefender users.

Follow the steps below and add an exception for the application you are having issues with:

    1. Double click on the BitDefender icon located on the Desktop to open the software.

    2. Click on 'Options' and then switch UI to: EXPERT MODE

    3. Click on OK

    4. Go to 'Firewall' then to 'Programs'

    5. Click on "Advanced" button and search the rule added for the application poweroff.exe then delete it from the list.

    6. Go back to "Programs" tab and Click on " add rule"

    7. Locate the executable file for the software by clicking on the 'Browse' button (i.e. Firefox.exe)

    8. Under "Permission" select ALLOW and click on OK

    9. Restart the computer and the issue should be resolved.
