Slow Network Share Performance With Enabled Firewall

Options

I observe the following performance when copying files over my local network (network shares) in BD IS 2011:

Firewall disabled:

Sending: ~70 MB/s

Receiving: ~80 MB/s

Firewall enabled:

Sending: ~150 KB/s

Receiving: ~50 MB/s

I followed various instructions in other posts and disabled most modules (Antispam, Antivirus, Privacy Control, etc) and advanced features (IDS, Search Advisor, AVC, etc) and set my network adapter to "Trusted", "Stealth off", "Generic Yes" and "VPN No", but nothing seems to help.

The only thing that appears to make a difference is disabling the Firewall module entirely.

Any ideas?

    Hi drematic,

    Welcome on the forum!

    Ideas? well... the usual ones:

    1) Bitdefender, firewall, programs, reinitialize

useful when we accidentally block access to a web program. Maybe... but I'm not sure it will fix it.

    2) start programs bitdefender repair/remove repair...

    3) Put information about your system (O.S, mem, proc, etc.) in your profile. It could help and save time.

  • Hello,

Please provide me with the following screenshot:

    - open BitDefender Security Center

    - switch to "Expert View" from the "Options" button

    - go to "Firewall" tab

    - go to "Network" tab

    - make a screenshot of that module

Also follow the steps explained in THIS article then send me a PM with the generated log file.

    Looking forward to your answer!

    PM sent. Thank you!

  • Hello,

I noticed after analyzing the logs you sent that the Real Time Protection driver was not installed nor running on your PC.

    1. Save the file below WITHOUT running it yet:

    http://www.BitDefender.com/uninstall

    2. Right click on the saved file and select "Run as Administrator" - only for Windows Vista/7

    3. Click on the "Uninstall" button then WAIT TO BE ASKED to restart the PC. Please do so when prompted

    4. Save the file below WITHOUT running it yet:

    http://download.piriform.com/ccsetup236.exe

    5. Install CCleaner then open it

    6. Perform both types of cleaning: Temporary files(first icon on the left hand - the blue paintbrush) and Windows Registry cleaning

Do NOT backup the entries before removing them !

    7. Restart the PC again

    8. Download the file below (depending on your PC architecture) but don't open it yet:

    BitDefender Internet Security 2011:

    32bits:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2011_32b.exe

    64bits:

    http://download.bitdefender.com/windows/de...ty_2011_64b.exe

    9. Right click on the saved file and select "Run as Administrator"

    10. Follow the on-screen instructions to re-install BitDefender correctly.

Went through all steps you described but the issue still persists.

I reinstalled with only the Antivirus and Firewall module enabled. I only changed the network settings to 'trusted' in order to be able to reach my local server. All other settings I left to default.

After the fresh installl, I ran the support tool again and surveyed the output.xml file specifically looking for references to the realtime protection driver you mentioned, but didn't have any luck finding it. What's the file name of the driver?

Could this be an incompatibility involving my NIC driver?

  • Hi,

Please provide me with the following information:

    - are all the PCs in the same router/switch network?

    - is the other PC connected via cable or wireless ( it it is WiFi, what standard? )

    - how are the files copied/transferred to the other PCs? Are you using Windows Explorer or other copying software?

    - can you provide more info on your NIC ? What Realtek model is it, because I see that NIC uses a generic Microsoft driver. It may be an older model and if no update has been provided for Win7 by Realtek, that might be the cause of the problems.
