Bdts2011

Hi, I just installed BitDefender Total Security 2011 Trial. I was using NOD32. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and when I'm running Chrome (my default browser) it's 3 to 4 times as slow with BitDefender. The only way I can get it to work like I did before is to add Chrome to BD's 'Game Mode'. Of course when Game Mode is enabled, you're security isn't as good as when it's not enabled.

Is there another way to make Chrome faster without having it in Game Mode? Thanks. BTW, IE Explorer 9 Beta and the newest Firefox runs just fine normally, it's just Chrome. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

BTW, if I disable the BD firewall, it makes no difference.....the only thing that I've found to speed it up is to add it to Game Mode.

  • Hello,

Open BitDefender and switch it to Expert View. Go to the Antivirus tab and click on the Custom Level.

In the new window uncheck Scan web (HTTP) traffic. Check to see if the issue still occur. If so please follow the steps below in order to further investigate:

    1. First please unplug the Internet cable from your computer or disable the Wireless adaptor if you are using one. This prevents the supporttools files from being automatically uploaded.

    2. Click on Start and then choose My Computer/Computer.

    3. Browse to:

    C:\Program Files\BitDefender\BitDefender 2011

    - considering that BitDefender was installed on the default C partition

    4. Double-click on the supporttool.exe file - if you are using Vista or Windows 7, right-click on the supporttool application file and select Run as Administrator

    5. Click on Next, wait a few minutes for the progress bar to complete and then click on Finish

    6. A file will be created on your desktop. Please move it to a location of your choice (i.e. move it on your c:\ drive)

    7. Reconnect your internet cable (only after you have moved the file to the new location)

    8. Upload the created file HERE

    9. Include a detailed description of the issue you are encountering and a screenshot of the error message, if there is one.

    10. Send a PM (Private Message) with the download link to DanyDan of tech support. Include a link to this topic and give him as much detail as possible about your PC - exact symptoms, hardware (CPU type/speed, Memory installed, etc.), OS and version, 32-bit or 64-bit, any other security software installed or previously uninstalled. Any other relevant configuration information.

It may take several days for them to analyze the files and respond depending on their workload, so please be patient.

    Did how?Kindly elaborate.

It is recommended to use proper uninstall tool for any security software for proper uninstallation.

  • Hi,

You don't experience this slowdown with Game Mode ON because while having the GM enabled some of the protection options will be set to Disabled. I also suspect that because of not uninstalling NOD32 correctly and before installing BitDefender. How you uninstalled NOD32 ?

Use the uninstall tool provided by ONT in his post then restart the PC. Reinstall BitDefender and the issue should be resolved.

Thanks I did just that....I used the NOD32 uninstall util from this thread and not only was I having to put Chrome in Game Mode, but I would also get real time protection disabled when it came up. Once I uninstalled NOD32 using the special app and then uninstalled BD and then reinstalled it....everything works fine now. Just once in a while BD does boot up and the real time protection won't be enabled. I have to reboot and it's fine. When I try to reenable it when it comes up disabled, it just won't start. This doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while. I wonder why but it can't be NOD32 anymore since it's gone for good now. Maybe it's just a little bug or something that will fix with an update or something.

Thanks though because now I can use Chrome without going into GM! I would consider this problem 'SOLVED'. So I thank everyone here that input their suggestions! I really appreciate it! :)

  • Hi,

You may consider the issue solve however I must disagree. I would like to see a new set of logs generated on the PC having the issue. Follow the steps explained in THIS article then send me a PM with the generated log file.

    Looking forward to your answer!
