Issues Around Port 80

Firstly, let me say that I'm not completely sure the issue is with Bitdefender, however my feeling is that it could be, so I have posted.

I used to use 2010 Total Security. After my Windows 7 reinstall, it made me install TS 2011 and xfer my licence code. I am not as familiar with 2011 as I was with 2010, so I am having a recurring issue, see below

Since I have reinstalled, I am having issues with iTunes downloads suddenly dropping out half way through downloads "Itunes Error code -3259 Network connection timeout" and also with MSN messenger cutting out at the same time.

I am then unable to reconnect MSN or restart the download. Once this happens I cannot browse the internet either (Page not available)

As I am located in China, I run a proxy VPN service (Astrill.com) to view youtube and facebook and when this error happens, even the proxy will not work. (Cannot Logon, retrying error)

At the same time, Skype and .NZB downloads continue uninterrupted.

The only thing I can see these 4 things (iTunes, MSN, Proxy and web browsing) have in common is Port 80 communication. While iTunes is showing up in my Whitelist, is it possible that one of these other programs is setting off the firewall and blocking the Port?

Where should I be looking in TS 2011 to confirm whether this is a BD issue?

FYI....I am using a hybrid (Mac/PC) network and use an Apple Time Capsule as my Router, this may be relevant)

Please HELP!

  • Hello,

    Indeed it looks like the issues are related. Try to do the following settings and let me know if the same issue occur:

    - open BitDefender 2011 Security Center and switch to Expert View;

    - go to Firewall -> Network tab;

    - make the following changes for the network adapter you are using:

    = Network Type: Home/Office

    = VPN: Yes

    = Stealth: Remote

    = Generic: Yes

    Test to see if the issue still occur.
