Imac With Windows 7 Locks Up With Full System Scan
I have a new iMac (quad core I7). Using "boot Camp" I have a windows partition, running Windows 7 64 bit. In this partition I have Bitdefender 2012 installed. I have attempted to run a "full system scan", three times:
#1. After 13 hours gave up, and terminated the scan.
#2. Same as # 1, except after 3 hours.
In both of these cases the time to finish continued to grow, starting at several minutes, finally growing to over 8 hours.
# 3. I left it running overnight. In the morning I found the system was locked up with an error message from Bitdefender.. It suggessted calling for help from Bitdefender if the condition continued. I will do that when/if I cannot find the solution on this web site.
I could close the error message window, but it also closed the "status" window, so I have no idea how far it went, or for how long. After that, nothing worked. I could not open bitdefender, or any other applicaation. I could not shut down the computer using the appropriate shut down method, so finally used the switch. Computer re-started OK.
#4 I ran a custom scan, not including the Mac HD. It ran in 32 minutes, finding several cookies, and locked files. Otherwise no issues reported.
I continue to get the "one issues needs to be fixed" message from bitdefender.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Let's see, today is Sept. 27th. I logged this problem with Bitdefender on Sept. 19th. No reply as yet. Pretty sure that is way more than 48 hours. I'm thinking these guys are out of control. Just got to find out how to get a refund. Anyone have any suggestions?

Time goes on. Today is Oct. 2nd. I did get an e-mail reply yesterday, asking to do a screen capture on the error message. They have still not bothered to read my original problem report. When running a full system scan the computer locks up. NOTHING works. No keyboard. Cnt/Alt/Del does nothing. Not possible to do screen capture.
So, Problem reported Sept. 19th. As of Oct. 2nd they have yet to read the problem report.
Caution to anyone considering this product. DO NOT BUY IT!. Check out the other posts. Many people find Bitdefender 2012 does not work, and support is totally absent.0 -

Same problem for me John. Dual Boot - X64 same reason I'm out here looking for support so the bit defender doesn't fully scan the mac drive. As long as it checks my windows C: drive I would be satisfied.
I jumped over from trend micro and I am thinking about jumping back0 -

Hi aathum,
I believe you can specify a scan that does not include the mac HD, but this will not be a "full system scan".
I finally gave up on Bitdefender (both the product, and the support), uninstalled the product and downloaded Microsoft security essentials (Free, no less). I was concerned about this product inadvertently writing over my Mac HD, and I was beginning to notice performance problems similar to others on this web site. I have asked no less than 5 times for a refund, but it is like water on a duck's back. Now my goal is to make sure I influence at least one person not to buy the product. Then they will not have made a cent on me. If I can get two, well they it's their loss, and they really should re-consider refunds when their product does not work, and when their support ######.
Good luck with it.0 -
