Bitdefender Causing Extreme Slowdown For Macbook Apps

With Bitdefender 2012 running in the background, it was virtually impossible to run Apple's Time Machine app as it was unacceptably slow in transferring data to the backup drive (on the order of 1 GB per hour). After turning OFF the real-time protection in the Bitdefender 2012 antivirus module, the Time Machine became a sudden speed demon and my backup of 135 GB was done in less than 30 minutes. Beyond the Time Machine issue, the overall speed performance of my MacBook Pro is noticeably degraded unless I disable real-time protection. I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 Can you offer some solutions here? :wacko:
