What Is Rarsfx

I am trying to scan my computer and I have come across a problem where 21 folders are being skipped. These folders/files are located under: \AppData\Local\Temp\ and they all have very similar names. The majority of them are named RarSFX with a number after the SFX part.

My question is this: what are these folders/files and how can I scan them if they are password protected. If there is a way to scan them, would I want to, or would it mess up my computer?

Please help me out here. Also thank you for reading/helping.

    Hello :)

    Welcome to the forums.

Please download and install the software and then run it to clean your computer's temporary files(from \AppData\Local\Temp\):

    http://www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/usin...gistry-cleaning

Password protected files do not present a threat. To scan a password protected file you first need to know its password which most of the times is randomly generated by the program who created it. At this point we recommend you to ignore the password protected entries in the log.

You should know however that the files detected as potential threats are not necessarily infected and will not affect your system in any way.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

    Have a great weekend!

  • I had a process called  installer.exe from \AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX  making outbound connections.

I saw this thread - but noticed that the Bitdefender Support reply did NOT answer the question of the OP: What is RarSFX ?

The Bitdefender Support person Mr Rootkit simply suggested the OP download some cleaning tools !

Are we to understand that : RarSFX is a malware ?  OR that Mr Rootkit is trying to sell the cleaning tool ?

Would be great if someone could answer the question

  • Hello,

RarSFX is the folder name for Self Extracting Archives unpack site. There is nothing malware about it.

The reason a cleaning tool was suggested is to clean the temp folder where they usually unpack. Also the tool suggested is free.

Bitdefender's Agent 2016/2017, installer.exe downloads the product from the cloud and unpacks it in the same manner.
