On-access Scanning Disabled

Options

I have Bitdefender total security 2012. So far I've been very disappointed I do not feel this was worth the money. I was having issues with my computer and I scanned it with Bitdefender and it found no problem. I wanted a second opinion so I installed Malwarebtyes Anti-Malware. I've had this program before in the past and it's free version is one of the best. Scanned my computer again with the Anti-Malware and it found 9 infected files while Bitdefender found none. They weren't anything devastating just PUPs and trogans but that's even more upsetting that Bitdefender not only didn't stop them from getting in but couldn't detect them after.

It's been a little while since then and everything is clean and nothing else has happened. Until now, Bitdefender's On-access Scanning is Disabled. I've read around and have seen the a lot of administrators have said'

"Running multiple security solutions on the same PC may affect their proper

functionality as they compete for access to the same system resources. Even if

they are turned off, there are some active processes running in the

background.

We recommend you to uninstall other security solutions in order for

Bitdefender to work properly."

Even though this shouldn't be the case because I have the free Anti-Malware and does not run any background processes (AFAIK) and simply scans when you tell it to. Though many people have uninstall their anti-malware and restarted their computer several times only to find this did not work. I have files in quarantine with Malwarebtyes and I'm not sure I want to uninstall it to leave myself completely unprotected to fix Bitdefender which didn't do that great a job in the first place.

I want to know if there is a better way to fix this and if not is there anyway I can't get my money back considering this product was around $70 and could find the simplest of issues while a free program did what it couldn't?
