[resolved] Active Virus Control

Options

I've recently installed a game called Batman: Arkham Asylum using Steam. Every single time I clicked on "Play", the game crashed with this event log error:

Faulting application name: BmStartApp.exe, version: 0.1.0.8, time stamp: 0x00000000

Faulting module name: BmStartApp.exe, version: 0.1.0.8, time stamp: 0x00000000

Exception code: 0xc0000005

Fault offset: 0x00164c64

Faulting process id: 0x1e58

Faulting application start time: 0x01cdb952e1f33575

Faulting application path: E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY\Binaries\BmStartApp.exe

Faulting module path: E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY\Binaries\BmStartApp.exe

Report Id: 202c3185-2546-11e2-af30-cf464ee0df3d

After searching and testing for a couple of days trying to find out what was causing this issue, I've finally found that if I disable the Active virus control in BitDefender 2012, the issue disappears.

So based on that, I have two questions:

1- Assuming BitDefender is preventing BmStartApp.exe from running, why BitDefender does not give me a warning message about it? (Autopilot is off)

2- I added the BmStartApp.exe in the Excluded processes but it doesn't seem the work (process is still crashing). Do I need to reboot for this feature to work?

    Hi :)

I think I have a solution for your case.

As the new Bitdefender 2013 product suite was released, we would like to inform you that you benefit from a FREE upgrade to the latest version.

Apart from the fact that the 2013 suite brings lots of new features and improvements, it will most likely solve any issues that you may have encountered with your previous Bitdefender product.

    Please check out this announcement:

After you install the new version, if needed, we will continue the conversation on the new area from here:

    Thank you.

  • Thanks for the information.

I've uninstall my Bitdefender installation and installed Bitdefender 2013 but my license key doesn't seem to work anymore. What am I supposed to do now?

  • Forget about my last post. I've installed the antivirus instead of the Total Security package so that's why my license was not good.
