Bd Free - Installation To Uninstallation In A Single Day

Hi all, first (and last) post.

I have today installed BD free in my search for a replacement for my long standing AVG which has recently gone haywire due to some update software conflict.

The installation went through OK, but I find a very basic control interface on my desktop, which I can do or change very little.

The header at the top of the panel shows a nice red X and a warning that the system is not protected. It is now approaching 20 hours and 14 hours running time since installation yet its unchanged, which doesnt fill me with confidence.

The virus shield box has a red border and the legend NOTHING SCANNED YET. The 'switch' is OFF. It will not switch ON. clicking on it opens a box that repeats the nothing scanned yet and the switch at OFF. the only control is back which closes the window;

The auto scan box is part bordered in grey. and the legend WAITING FOR ON DEMAND. The 'switch' is ON. clicking on it opens a box that says its suspended while the On Demand scanner finishes. From that I conclude from that that the thing is actually doing something but some taskbar indication or actually some kind of hint or prompt would be most beneficial. there is a process registered in task manager that isnt taking a lot of CPU power, but the HD activity light is busy, so something is going on.

The on demand scanner box is the most perplexing. It lists active drives only. I cannot select individual drives, folders or files unless I choose the scan with BD option in the right click context menu. The taskbar icon context menu gives one option only, a full system scan. My PC has 9 drives just over 3Tb. If i start plugging in EHDs I can add a fair few more.

So far I am greatly unimpressed with what I see, and less than impressed with the package as a whole. There are no options - although I have discovered this is classed as a 'zero configuration' prog, designed I guess to appeal to the less than computer literate or those who cant be bothered to learn the basics, and I, most definitely am a hands on configuration user. To all I have taught PCs and progs over the last 20 years I have always said that you do not need to know how a car engine works to drive one, but you should know how to check the tyres, oil and water etc. Same to me applies with a PC. You dont need to be an MSCE, be able to quote Moores Law or explain the difference between megabits and megabytes to use a PC, but you should have a bit of basic knowledge beyond the ON button and mouse and maybe tweak and change simple settings to suit, as everyones choices are different.

This package will no doubt appeal to many people because of its simplicity, but because of its high level of idiot proofing and its dangerous out of sight, out of mind nature its sadly not for me, which is a shame because i'd heard good things about it.

    Hi Phlyer, and welcome

    The Bitdefender forum has a lot of Sub Forums, you just missed the Antivirus Free Edition by a mouse click or two :)

    I would suggest to log in on the forum, hit reply to your above post, "copy" your post, and start a new thread pasting your post in that sub forum, you may get some feedback and not have it be your "last post". It's up to you :)

    Kind regards,
