Autopilot Sometimes Doesn't Check For Av Updates Itself When Started

Running Bitdefender 2015 in Autopilot mode on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
I thought the idea behind this was that it would 'look after itself' with no manual intervention necessary.
However when I boot up my PC it sometimes complains 'you are vulnerable: fix all issues' just because AV signature updates haven't been done recently (image attached).
I then need to manually click the 'update' button to force it to update itself.
Why on earth can't it just look for updates itself, instead of asking me to do it? If I've set autopilot mode, I've implicitly told it to do things automatically.
This is silly and annoying. Is there a fix for this?
