If you want to save money, never renew your Bitdefender subscription. In all cases, it is less expensive to just buy a new license. Bitdefender pricing has been doing this consistently for several years now. I've reported this issue several times, so I assume that Bitdefender just want to trick people into paying more than necessary just because many don't take time to compare prices. The same applies to multi-year subscriptions: do not buy for example a 2 year subscription since it is more expensive than just buying a new license each year.
