on-demand vs on-access
Hey there,
I'm going to whitelist my usb flash drive since BItDefender starts scanning it every day after boot-up and it takes more than a hour to complete (8 GB usb 2.0), beside the assumption that this might not be that healthy for the usb drive...
By whitelisting it, there comes a dialog asking me if excluding it from "on-demand scanning", "on-access scanning" or both. What is the difference?
I can guess that "on-access" is obviously meaning that when I access it. But "on-demand"? When I have a demand of my USB drive then I will access it soon either way...
Can't find an answer in online help or forum.
Thanks in advance!
PS: One search request per minute for registred users in forum? okay...

Hello,
The answer can be found in the product's user guide.
The on demand scan is the scans you as a user start.
You can also go to Bitdefender > Protection > View Features > Antivirus > Drives and devices and change the Scan USB devices option.0 -
/index.php?/profile/212794-dermaddin/&do=hovercard" data-mentionid="212794" href="<___base_url___>/index.php?/profile/212794-dermaddin/" rel="">@DerMaddin As Sorin mentioned you could change scan USB setting to Ask every time, or Disable, then in the future you could do a contextual right click "on demand" scan of the USB drive from Windows This PC, on the fly, whenever you please.
As you understand it, on access scans (real time protection) occur when files are accessed/opened. On demand scans are user initiated scans done via right clicking a file -> Scan with BD, dropping it into the Security Widget or running a Quick scan or a System scan etc.
BD really does a nice job with their user guides. I prefer the PDF download version from /index.php?/topic/76622-bitdefender-2018-users-guide/" rel="">here. Otherwise, it can also be found on the main BD window > Support > User's Guide
Hope this helped0
